OPEN CALL to all TF artists.

Post by acsoundwave » Thu Nov 15, 2007 2:22 am

I'm writing a Transformers meta-series fan comic, and I need artists who can draw giant transforming robots. Hence this test below.

* Yes, I bought the book; but I need tons of practice. *

Your page sample can be black-and-white or color. I'm looking for solid inking and a working knowledge of G1(Generation One/1984) Transformers.(TV series)

You can post it here, or send it as an attachment via email to me(replace AT and DOT with the proper punctuation marks).

I'll contact you if I think you have the skills I'm looking for. As this is a meta-series(think of long comic book series), I'm looking for three artists that will stick with me(the writer) for the long haul(no pun intended).

SCENARIO:

1995.

Megatron had captured the Aerialbots and compelled/convinced them to fight as Decepticons. (This depends on your point of view in the Autobot-versus-Decepticon divide.)

Optimus confronts Megatron, determined to win/bring back the Aerialbots.

COPY:

PG_1.4:

COPY:
1.MEGATRON: IT WAS INEVITABLE--
2.MEGATRON: --THAT THEY WOULD JOIN THEIR TRUE BROTHERS IN THE SKIES.

PG_1.5:
OPTIMUS, determined stance.
COPY:
1.OPTIMUS: I WILL GET THEM BACK, MEGATRON.

PG_1.6:
Close-up on OPTIMUS' face.
COPY:
1.OPTIMUS: I WILL GET THE AERIALBOTS BACK.

I'm a veteran fan fiction writer, but I'm new to the visual half. The story I'm working on spans a great deal of time; the page I have for artists to work on is a six-panel snapshot.

I see. :) Good photomanip. (in spite of the fact that the backgrounds don't match from panel to panel.)

Although I was thinking along the lines of actually having the comic...drawn.

... the fact that Megatron randomly changes robot model is fine though, yeah?

Boring! Give the entire thing to me... you might end up sued, but at least it'll keep me out of the pub...

I can see a spelling error- 'From the very moment they landed on this rock' should read 'From the very moment they landed on Fraggle Rock'...

Do I sense a wee bit of hostility towards AC because he's one of them Cartoon-fans..? :o

Oddly enough... Brendocons grotty gritts actually follow the flow and panel-layout from the script decently well... :eyebrow:

If you do, it's all in your head. I've seen nothing to indicate he's a toony...

It's not odd when you consider that I, like, went by the script...

Seriously.

One: I'm a woman.

Two: Yes, I do in fact like the G1 cartoon. I didn't know it was disliked here. I was eight when said show was originally on, watching it with my brother. Please bear with me.

Peace.

Well, yes.

You know you love it really!

It's not that it's disliked, more that the majority of regulars here have experienced the comic and are of the opinion that the cartoon is less intellectual by comparison, and therefore it is open to ridicule.

Then again, so is the comic, the administration and just about everything else.

Except Shockwave. Because he did it.

And as for the bear...

Brendocon told me that he was joking; all is well. :)

As for the cartoon being "less intellectual": acknowledged. It was designed to sell toys on Saturday morning. I still find it entertaining, but I guess here I'm in the minority.

Have you gotten some feedback on this on some of the other TF-sites? I wager you have already tried Seibertron? :)

It's so durn' big that one, so you might just find some artists that may be interested there.

Yes; I've been to SEIBERTRON. I think I may have an artist or two on the project.

I just had to hop in to confirm I indeeddiddily diddily did. :ididit:

Btw, acsoundwave, we don't mind cartoon fans around here. Heck, we're tolerant. Except if you'd say Cartoon Grimlock was better then Comic Grimlock.

In that case run for the hills...

Btw - just out of curiosity, why does Megs wants the Aerialbots back? They weren't ever Decepticons in the cartoons, AFAIK... they only admired them.

Actually...

Post by acsoundwave » Tue Dec 04, 2007 12:11 am

Optimus Prime is demanding the Aerialbots' return.

Let me explain. One of the story arcs of my fancomic series involves this:

The Aerialbots, for various reasons(triggered by a kidnapping of one Aerialbot) decided to join the Decepticons.(This happens during that 20-year gap between the cartoon and the Movie, in 1995.)

As the A-bots were created to help the Autobots fight the Decepticons in the air(not to mention the gestalt/combiner Superion), this is a bad setback for the "good guys". Optimus intends to get them back.

This is the plot of the story arc in a simple, truncated form; there's a ton of backstory that builds to this arc--and ties into other arcs. The script I posted is merely a sample script for prospective artists.

Pat Lee spent weeks drawing that comic page from scratch to convey the emotion and storyline. And you still can't follow it?

:(

I blame the colourist.

TBH, the plot just sounds a bit cartoony, ergo stupid.

It's mainly comic fans here bub.

I think you'd get better results headbutting a tree for a bit.

edit

ahahahahahaahah... I should have read the rest of the thread.

I like Pat Lee's work, it's popping up all over the place...
