Without going into the long boring details, they're all scenes from The End of Days, which is referenced a few times in LoTR and the Silmarillion but Tolkein never really elaborates on. He only gives a sketchy account in note form in an early version of the Silmarillion, which I've done a few scenes from above and would love to set to music in a short 3 minute sequence:_Derek_ wrote:cool concept man, would like to see it, as for me I'll make use of that site, cheers.
Sauron's master, Melkor the Morgoth, returns from his banishment in The Void beyond the Door of Night and destroys the Sun and the Moon, plunging Middle Earth into darkness.
Using his replenished powers, he ressurrects his Army and wages the Last Great War in Middle Earth. The Valar, the Gods of Light, return from the Undying Lands in the West and use the last of their power to raise an equal army- all living things which have ever existed fight for either Good or Evil.
Melkor is finally slain by Turin, the most powerful man in history, and the Silmarils (the fabulous jewels, who's beauty was such that lust for them which sundered the Elf clans from each other and split them from the Gods of Light) are found and returned to Manwe, Lord of Light, by Ulmo (God of the Seas), the Dwarves and Earindil who had a Silmaril clasped to his brow when he and his ship was put into the sky to watch for the return of Melkor.
The Silmarils are broken open and the light inside replenishes the Undying Lands and restores their beauty, including the great White Trees.
Finally Eru Illuvatar, creator of all things, comes to Earth to reveal the purpose of man (often spoken of but never explained). Middle Earth was created out of a heavenly choir sung by the Valar to a composition from Eru, which was thrown into dischord by Melkor- Mankind will now lead all creatures in a final song to recreate the Universe without evil, now that the dischord of Melkor is removed; and that represents the End of Days.
Long winded I know Shame Tolkein never finished it, it would have made quite a tale.
