Almost entirely finished, I'm thinking about applying perspective-blurr, but I'm not entirely sure about it yet.

I havent got access to the Pencil art but I went ahead and started colouring in layers, building up a strong contrast of light and dark - my intention, far from perfect is to make superman stand out as if bathed in light. I have picked my light sources as the fire in the sky, and this has allowed me to make the ground very dark. a few PS filters were used in places.
I thought it was a picture of Superman flying in the Sun's corona, with his back to its surface. Which would make the 'fire in the sky' the Sun itself, and the 'ground' space.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:my intention, far from perfect is to make superman stand out as if bathed in light. Saying that, your colours do make for a more vibrant feel to the whole thing, the greater clarity of the prominence, even if it seems odd that Supes would be so close to an energy-sapping red star.

That's cool Impy, but I guess Rebis is kinda right,
since red stars neutralise the solar energy inside of Superman,
he'd be dead to rights so to speak.
Do you want the original drawing card-board version with info about bleed and such that Quitely did,
with different blemishes and dotted lines, so that you can do some inking of your own chosing,
or do you want my level-edited semi computer-'inked' version?
What do you think about some perspective blurr btw?
Applying some on the smallest erruptions in the distance and what not?
Should I do it?

Please, buy me one.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:I'm a bit lucky as ive got a stylus to paint with and its got all the pressure sensitive/tilt things that make them rather cool. ie.
its easier to get a better more organic line then a mouse.
I made a small upgrade to the piece, btw.

Did you want the lineart to play with yourself? 'Cause then I'll post that too.
EDIT: Sorry Impy, I just couldn't resist! I had to f*ck about with your piece a little bit. Some gradient-map and adjustment-level, really simple stuff.
Actually, I'd like to see that, I'm a really rather big fan of Quitely's stuff.Predabot wrote:Do you want the original drawing card-board version with info about bleed and such that Quitely did
I really like Pred's version of Impy's rendition, the Sun and the lighting effects are great, so vibrant and bright but still retaining form.
The...shades(?) of colour on the first Pred version on Supes himself were fun to look at as well. Thanks for posting these guys!
I'm not up on Supes lore, so didn't know about the red sun thing, but in the comic his being that close to it does seem to have had a very pronounced effect on his biology.

That's actually something that's been touched upon in Superman before, when Hal Jordan - The Green Lantern reignited the sun after it had been nearly swallowed by a Sun-eater, Superman recharged his then waning powers in a quickie manor by flying close to it, and this had the effect that since the sun was ultra-active at the time, he got over-loaded. And during the course of a few weeks he turned into the blue energy-Superman. So apparently there's a limit to as to how much energy Supermans cells can absorb until the charge have harmfull adverse effects on him.I'm not up on Supes lore, so didn't know about the red sun thing, but in the comic his being that close to it does seem to have had a very pronounced effect on his biology.
I believe John Byrne did something similar when Supes saved a woman that had mutated into a large creature with super-strength because of algea that absorbed sun-light, by stealing their solar-charge so they died out of her system. He himself immedieately had to release the energy into the atmosphere because it was creating a rather burning sensation.
Cheers Preds, and ta for the Supes info as well. That's interesting to know, considering the plot-line in All-Star.Predabot wrote:Coming right up.KingMob wrote:Actually, I'd like to see that, I'm a really rather big fan of Quitely's stuff.

No prob Kingmob. Hey, maybe one day you and I will collaberate on a piece? Transfest 2006 is coming up and everything.
Also, here's what I think will be the final version of this piece, I finally dared to make some perspective blurr. I put the lowest value of blurr on the erruption right behind supes, then I put the highest value on the horizon, and had a middle-value of blur on the area that is just above the horizon.
