Not I, said the fly.

I suppose it looks sorta good. A style that it somewhat unusual for me. I'm sure I get used to it.
Yes, do more.
But why do you use so much black? Sometimes I can hardly see shat. Please, use a little bit less of black and I'm sure it gets easier to follow.
Plus, if you ever want some nutty digital coloring, you can always ask me or any of the other members involved in similar hobbies and pursuits.

Faint praise as ever, thanks Pred.Predabot wrote:I suppose it looks sorta good. A style that it somewhat unusual for me. I'm sure I get used to it.
Because the story is set underground?Predabot wrote:But why do you use so much black?
To add to a dark atmosphere?
Because it means I don't have to draw too many backgrounds?
It never goes out of fashion?
Because I like it?
It's the new black?
Simon Furman came to me in a dream and told me to?
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Do you ever get tired of putting other, very capable, people down to make yourself look good?Predabot wrote:I suppose it looks sorta good. A style that it somewhat unusual for me. I'm sure I get used to it.

Very good rob- I think the dark atmosphere suits it perfectly.

Look Karl, my intent was not to put Rob down, or cause trouble, but if I did do so I apologise to MV.
He did ask for some opinion, and too me it was too dark. Simple as that. My advice stemmed from the fact that I've heard time and time again that my own work is too dark, and I acknowledge that it is/was.
And don't come draggin' anything about me wanting to put others down to make myself seem splendor or somethin'. 'Cause that's not true. There are many people/artists I look up to here at TransFans.
Peace out. (I'll of course still look at MV's comic)

he didn't ask for anything of the sort far as I can see. coupled with your back history for making vaguely insulting comments about other people's work when all they've done is their best.Predabot wrote:

How generous. I bet he's seeing the meaning to life once again. Just the thought of his doing more artwork and your saying "yeah well I guess it's kinda okay I suppose but if you want it done right let me do it."Peace out. (I'll of course still look at MV's comic)
Nobody has a problem with constructive criticism, your critiques are nothing of the sort however imo and generally patronising.

Keep it up, im enjoying it.
On the subject of lighting - and keeping it dark - I notice in the first page you do, the scratchy chalky bits of colour are stronger and in more contrast to the dark. as if light is reflecting of hard edges etc..
I say keep the black, but contrast edgey colours more... all good for me either way, I think you got it spot on in frame 1. but hey its a new style and im sure it takes alot of time and effort to refine it.
good stuff.
I love Impy

Well, I reckon it looks perfect as it is. Couldn't get more fitting for the story it's telling.
Oh, and EmVee, it wasn't Simon Furman. It was me. I know, it was all a little fuzzy, because it was a dream, so I'll let you off for thinking I seemed more rotund, less bespectacled and less Bristolian, than I actually am.
And so, as Randy Quaid said in Independence Day:
Keep 'em comin'

Yeah...but your avatar still looks incomprehensible to me...if I didn't know it was the Fallen, I wouldn't know what the hell it was supposed to be. If you can't see shat, then in (the darkest panel I've done so far) page three panel one, what's going on?Predabot wrote:As you know from my avatar I've been in the "use too much black"-trap myself, so believe me, I can't see shat.

Sigh...no matter what I do it's the same. That avatar is my messed up child. I think because of the how his head is made up, it's why it's that way. Supposedly when I finish the next version I have to show all of his uggly mug. There'll be less of my shiny energy and darkness in that one too.Metal Vendetta wrote: Yeah...but your avatar still looks incomprehensible to me...if I didn't know it was the Fallen, I wouldn't know what the hell it was supposed to be.
Erm, some sort of sweep is on the ground, and Impactor is making some kind of joke?If you can't see shat, then in (the darkest panel I've done so far) page three panel one, what's going on?

Gah. It's a seeker (conehead configuration) on the floor. A Sweep? What do you think I am? A cartoon fanboy? Sooty?Predabot wrote:Erm, some sort of sweep is on the ground, and Impactor is making some kind of joke?If you can't see shat, then in (the darkest panel I've done so far) page three panel one, what's going on?
Yes Impactor is making some kind of joke. And there's someone else speaking...?

Do I see a very early Optimus Prime design in there being used for Ultra? - ie the early image of OP in issue 1? - cool
On your 3rd page you did, I took it into photoshop - clicked auto levels. then manual adjusted the contrast.
to
brightness +6
contrast + 41
If u have a go, I was wondering what you thought?

Agree on how cool this is.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:Do I see a very early Optimus Prime design in there being used for Ultra? - ie the early image of OP in issue 1? - cool
I'm enjoying your work Emvee, and I'm digging the darkness and scratchy look. I got the impression that the story is set in an enclosed compound and that Impy and Magnus were loitering in shadows...Impy then stealthing about and capping folks, Magnus moving to cover an entranceway.
I don't know if this is an impression I'm supposed to be getting of course, but it does mean that the artwork is communicating an understandable and enjoyable narrative to me, that complements the dialogue and rendering technique of the characters; which btw I also agree with an earlier comment, the scratchy chalky look is neat and fits the Wreckers.
I.E. Job's a good'un.
Plus I think it's just fundamentally really neat to see an Impy/Magnus story.
This could be contrasted against the confused impression I got when looking at a certain other member's avatar, which initially just resembled a mississippi mud pie that someone had sat on and communicated nothing to me about the purpose of the avatar or what it represented except perhaps a strong fondness for things of dark brown colouration, or a monitor that needed to have it's own brightness/contrast levels adjusted.
Of course, it's changed for the better now Now it just reminds me of cheap and tacky holofoil colouring used endlessly on 80's Pannini sticker books, with the narrative connotations that implies. huzzah.
Also; well said Karl.

I'll check that out tonight I'm not averse to a bit of tweaking if it improves the story.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:On your 3rd page you did, I took it into photoshop - clicked auto levels. then manual adjusted the contrast.

KM - spot on, that's exactly the scenario I was trying to describe.
Yup. Incidentally for early-comic design spotters, as well as OP's first Cybertronian alt-mode for Magnus, the Decepticon Impactor squashes resembles the Decepticon techs we see in #103 (another Decepticon of this design would later become Straxatron) and the second robot Magnus is tangling with is loosely based on Straxus's ill-fated lackey Crosscut. I've been hanging out at the obscure TFs site too much, methinks.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:Do I see a very early Optimus Prime design in there being used for Ultra? - ie the early image of OP in issue 1? - cool
