Sunday Fan Fic Meetings
Moderators:Best First, spiderfrommars, IronHide
I started a thread not long back to see if there was any interest in starting up a fanfic comic. There was a little bit of interest, so I started this thread.
Although, the topic can be updated at any time, I thought as nobody really has major amounts of time on their hands, may be people willing to get involved could give an hour each Sunday???? (At least)
Sprunker had an idea for a story, Preds has volunteerd for colour duty and I'm a little nervous about stepping up for pencil duties. But if that has to be the case I will.
So anyone got a spare hour on Sundays?

I could chip in a bit. I'm a good writer and an adequate editor, so if you need someone to help out with the scripts, proof-read, or keep an eye on continuity, give me a yell. I'm not sure how much I would be able to contribute, though; a good chunk of my online time is eaten up by my RPG mod gig over at the Archive.
Not really any organisation I guess.
No story to work from or ideas to build upon. We have enough offers of help, to make a start at it though.
So any ideas for a story and which characters are gonna star in it (Anyone who wants a go at the artwork can get practicing then or make a start on a story board, i guess??)
Jboyler any help would be fantastic and remember a lot of people like the old Marvel artwork, it's started to grow on me too.

Operation: Volcano or What If Galvatron hadn't time-jumped into Earth's Past?
Starring
Optimus Prime as a rampaging Autobot leader.
Megatron as the morale-boosting Decepticon.
and introducing...
Impactor as a very large, nasty Autobot guerilla.
Special DVD extras include Galvatron fumbling around with the time-jump device, but is unable to get it to work. Bleedin' Video recorders!

I'd be up for that. We'll have to shoehorn Spinister into it somehow, though.Rebis wrote:Operation: Volcano or What If Galvatron hadn't time-jumped into Earth's Past?
Seriously, though...we could run with that.
- Start out by recapping the first few pages of the Target:2006 prologue issue (up until Prime, Prowl and Ratchet disappear and the Matrix Flame dies out).
- Volcano goes off as scheduled, so the Coneheads, Insecticons and Triplechangers are killed. Other, later-series 'Cons have to step in to take their place in the hierarchy (Carnivac's Mayhems among them, and Trypticon). Straxus would already have been killed, so the action on Cybertron after this would probably focus on a few factions vying to replace him. Ratbat (who hasn't been seen yet, so we can pretend he's in his War Within body), Thunderwing, Scorponok and their men, I suppose. The 'Bot resistance is strengthened, with Magnus uncomfortably stepping into the role of military leader. His example gives hope back to Maximus's men, who don't go to Nebulos.
- The Decepticons imprisoned in Command Performances probably wouldn't have gotten loose, and without the reenforcements from Cybertron (most of which were killed in Volcano) Megs and Shockwave are in dire straits on Earth...just the two of them, Soundwave, Laserbeak and the Constructicons against about forty Autobots.
- What of the Cybertron Seven, the Dinobots and the yet to be built Aerialbots and Stunticons (according to G2 the Combaticons, or at least Onslaught, were old enough to have be related to one of Maximo's men, so they couldn't have been made here. Logically, then, the Protectobots must have existed previously too since the 'Cons were piggybacking on the Matrix at the time. Silly Furman...)?
Obviously.Warcry wrote:Start out by recapping the first few pages of the Target:2006 prologue issue (up until Prime, Prowl and Ratchet disappear and the Matrix Flame dies out).
Although, some of those must survive, as they're seen in post-movie stories.Volcano goes off as scheduled, so the Coneheads, Insecticons and Triplechangers are killed.
Why? He wasn't 'already killed' in the shown stories.Straxus would already have been killed
Except that Rodimus had a flashback to his Targetmaster companion's death, so some version of the Headmasters mini-series had to have taken place. The 'Bot resistance is strengthened, with Magnus uncomfortably stepping into the role of military leader. Sorry, didn't I make myself clear earlier? I was meaning to start off on the old TransFans route of trying to fill in the gap from In the National Interest onwards along the movie-era timeline.

Not really. I mean, it's not exactly unprecidented for characters to get rebuilt after the fact. They'd have to be around for the Movie, too. Well, except for Octane.Rebis wrote:Although, some of those must survive, as they're seen in post-movie stories.
The main thing is for them to be out of the fight right now, to muck up things for Megatron and Shockwave on Earth.
Well, OK, he's alive in severed head form. But he won't be for long...Why? He wasn't 'already killed' in the shown stories.
Not necessarily. He had that flashback after Galvy's first time-jump, which means that the timeline had already been polluted...originally, he might not have become a TM at all. We really have no way of knowing what happened in between In the National Interest and the Movie.Except that Rodimus had a flashback to his Targetmaster companion's death, so some version of the Headmasters mini-series had to have taken place.
Yeah, I'm grasping at straws. I know.
You didn't, but that's more or less what I had in mind too...Sorry, didn't I make myself clear earlier? I was meaning to start off on the old TransFans route of trying to fill in the gap from In the National Interest onwards along the movie-era timeline.
I'm working on a brief outline for a first arc right now...it'd probably break down into four or five 11-page issues, if we chose that route. It focusses on the lead-up to and execution of Volcano as seen from Magnus's perspective, with a few bits of Earth action tossed in to show the ripple effects of Galvy not jumping. I'll post it in a bit (probably tomorrow sometime) so that you guys can pick it apart and tell me why it's not going to work.
If we want to actually fill in that big gap, we're obviously going to have to release things issue-by-issue. Otherwise we'd never finish.

It's actually pretty damn good...maybe the face isn't 'robotic' enough, but still quite good.jboyler wrote:Here's a pencil sketch of Impactor. I usually draw squishies, so it's about the best I can do in an expedient manner.
I applied some low-quality Photoshop hackery to it and got a rough coloured version. I suck at colouring, though.

Here's the plot outline thing I was working on...the 'issue' markers operate on the assumption that we'd be using 11-page issues. I ended up including much more detail than I'd originally planned, because I was bored. It'll need a lot of polishing, though, if you guys want to run with it. So polish away...
Issue 1
-Start off with a short recap, reminding readers of the big Decepticon culling in Command Performances and how the Earthbound 'Cons are in dire straits. Include some mention of the Autobots' preparations for Operation: Volcano, and other info the reader will need to know.
-Kick off with something that the readers probably wouldn't be expecting: a scene with Magnus getting the finishing touches applied to his trailer/armour. This ties in with the idea (seen in the first issue of T:2006) that Magnus might not be 'ready' in time for Volcano. He gets a clean bill of health and marches off to tell Xaaron.
-Hop over to Earth. Since the 'Bots and 'Cons aren't pre-occupied with Galvy's antics, they hear about the arrival of the Cybertron Seven. Prowl, Smokescreen, Hound and Jetfire head out to meet them and prevent RAAT from taking them into custody.
-In the Decepticon camp, Soundwave decides on his own that they can't wait for potential reinforcements from Cybertron. He sends out Laserbeak to find the missing Ravage. Upon hearing about the new Autobots, Megatron sets out on his own to deal with them.
-Back on Cybertron again. Shrapnel meets with Ratbat and Straxus's head, telling them about the Autobot leadership's meeting. They dismiss the Insecticon with promises of reward if the intel proves accurate, then argue amongst themselves over whether they should act on it. Ratbat believes it would be inefficient and wasteful, but Straxus overrules him and orders him to prepare for a massive strike on the meet. The issue ends with him making some sort of "...and destroy the Autobots for all time!" cartoon-Megatron-esque speech.
Issue 2
-Opens with a shot of Laserbeak flying, somewhere over rural Oregon. Using his sensors, he manages to hone in on the still off-line Ravage.
-Move to near the Columbia River Gorge, where Perceptor, Blaster & co. are being assaulted by RAAT troops. Prowl's team manages to distract Circuit Breaker before she can disable any of the Autobots, but only by calling the attack down onto them as well. Circuit Breaker is frying Jetfire when she is suddenly shot in the back...by Megatron!
-Move back to Cybertron. Magnus is meeting with Xaaron, Impactor, and Red Alert (head of security for their resistance cell). They discuss the progress being made in the construction of the facsimiles that will be used to fill the seats in the fake Autobot conference. Red raises an objection (which he has apparently voiced many times before), saying that he would be more comfortable if he was allowed to lead the troops in the hall instead of Impactor. The two of them squabble for a moment, until Magnus slaps them down. Xaaron cuts in, saying that they don't have time to change the plan. Red huffs, then heads off to see to the arrangement of the surface uprising forces. Impactor and Magnus go to the simulator for the Wreckers' last test run before the real thing starts off.
-Columbia River Gorge. Prowl gapes at Megatron before forcing his emotions back under control and demanding to know why the Decepticon saved his men. Megs blasts Prowl with his fusion cannon, then glances over at Jetfire. He says he didn't...he just wanted to kill the Autobots himself.
Issue 3
-The Imperial Ampetheatre, Iacon. Xaaron is giving a speech to a crowd of facsimile constructs (perhaps the same one he gives in the T:2006 epilogue issue). Kickback is watching. The Wreckers and Magnus detect him and prepare themselves. Kickback reports back to his team, and they move in for the kill (no Megatron to call them off this time...).
-Earth. Laserbeak has flown down to the bottom of the well Ravage is stuck in, and attempts to rouse him. He manages to, and begins to fill his comrade in on what's transpired since he's been out (not that much, so far).
-Columbia River Gorge. Smokescreen manages to hide himself and Hound from RAAT fire, so the humans turn on Megatron. While the Decepticon is pre-occupied, the two Autobots introduce themselves to Perceptor's team. Blaster sends a message from Smokescreen to the Ark requesting help, but Megatron quickly turns his attention to the Autobots again.
-Back to Cybertron. Dirge leads his team into the Ampetheatre, but before they can do anything, the Wreckers arrive and engage them in combat. Macabre sneaks away from the group, intent on disobeying orders and killing Xaaron.
-Back to Earth. While Megatron is fighting the Autobots, Circuit Breaker gets back up and starts frying all the robots she can see.
Issue 4
-Earth. After a brief scuffle, Megatron blasts Circuit Breaker again, tired of being annoyed by the human. At this point, she appears to be dead.
-Iacon. Many of Dirge's men have fallen, but Decepticon reinforcements (the Predacons and Carnivac's Mayhems) are beating down the door. Macabre begins attacking from his sniper perch, managing to take down Impactor and Xaaron in short order before Magnus blasts his position with his shoulder rockets. Realizing that they're being overwhelmed, Magnus puts in a call to Red Alert on the surface, asking for reinforcements.
-Earth. Megatron turns back to the Autobots, hoping to finish his business with them. Before he can attack, however, a new foe arrives in answer to Smokey's SOS: Omega Supreme.
[Note: this issue seems a bit light on the ground, but the Operation: Volcano battle sequence will take up lots of page space]
Issue 5
-Iacon. Red Alert leads Inferno, Springer, Broadside and Sandstorm in an attack on the Decepticons' rear (get your minds out of the gutter!). This throws the Decepticons into disarray long enough for Magnus and the Wreckers to get past them and join up with their comrades. The Predacons combine into Predaking, and the Autobots have to fall back...abandoning Impactor and Xaaron to their respective fates.
-Earth. Omega Supreme shrugs off incoming fire from RAAT and Megatron, then slaps the Decepticon down with a single blast from his main cannon. He transforms, and the battered and wounded Autobots are loaded aboard. As he blasts off, we see Megatron, totally defenceless, surrounded by RAAT troops.
-Iacon. Magnus starts berating himself for what he thinks is a massive failure, but Red Alert contradicts him. Autobot cells across the planet have done massive damage to the Decepticon war machine, and the operations in Iacon were so successful that the Decepticons are fleeing the city. Magnus tries to muster some happiness, but for himself and the Wreckers the victory is hollow indeed.
-Earth. Laserbeak and Ravage return to the Decepticon base and notice that the auto-defences are finally working. They are met by Shockwave and Soundwave, who inform them that Megatron has been taken prisoner by RAAT, and his location is unknown.
- In the Straxus head's office, Ratbat confronts him about the inefficiency of the operation, trading control of Iacon for the deaths of Xaaron and Impactor. Straxus' reply is tinted with madness, prompting Ratbat to...remove him from command.

I was reluctant to use them...but in the regular comic timeline they did go after Perceptor's bunch almost as soon as they arrived. I didn't want to just pretend they didn't exist.spiderfrommars wrote: Not sure about RAAT's involvement tho.
Besides, what do you think will happen to them when Megatron wakes up in their custody?
Er...I suppose they eventually have to be brought back to the Autobot fold, but that's something that's probably best left for a while down the timeline. The 'Bots have a big enough advantage on Earth right now as it is...Question: What happens to the Dinobots?
No reason you can't, either by tossing out ideas for this, or making your own version. The more the merrier, as far as I'm concerned.Best First wrote: uhh... i thought this was one that the staff were gonna play with at some point?

One major point: Red Alert is one of the Earthbound Autobots (as shown in The Enemy Within), so wouldn't be in Iacon for quite a long time.Warcry wrote:-Move back to Cybertron. Magnus is meeting with Xaaron, Impactor, and Red Alert (head of security for their resistance cell).

But, then, we do appear to have gone extremely stagnant with that particular side of TransFans.

I tend to write that appearence off as an error, since it's the only time ever that we see Red with them. He's not with the Autobots after Ratchet revives them in Repeat Performances, and Sunstreaker is supposed to be the only Autobot offline at that time, which suggests that Red simply isn't there.Rebis wrote:One major point: Red Alert is one of the Earthbound Autobots (as shown in The Enemy Within), so wouldn't be in Iacon for quite a long time.
Toss in the fact that the story doesn't fit neatly anywhere on the timeline and the fact that even Furman himself seems to have disregarded it, and you can probably see why I don't put too much stock in that appearance. I'd classify it in the same column as Broadside appearing with Grimlock's troops in Totalled.
So, we remove Enemy Within from the timeline, thus rendering Raiders of the Last Ark null and void, so Wrath of Grimlock then becomes an anomaly, and suddenly you've wrecked the whole continuity!Warcry wrote:Toss in the fact that the story doesn't fit neatly anywhere on the timeline and the fact that even Furman himself seems to have disregarded it, and you can probably see why I don't put too much stock in that appearance.
Broadside, however, as a non-active member of Totaled, can easily be written off as an artistic error. As can any US appearance of Skids when Galvatron is back on Earth and a Battlecharger being one of Blaster's Autopals in Club Con.

I can accept that, but:
-Why didn't we hear about Red again until, what, G2 if he was part of Prime's original crew? It don't make no sense...
-Who can we replace him with here, story-wise? Can't be Springer (since Impactor didn't know him, he obviously wasn't too important pre-Volcano). Rollbar, maybe? But then the other Throttlebots would be with him, not Inferno and the Triplechangers.
