I can imagine. That's a very Yangerish drawing from Senior, whilst still keeping with the Senior style.bumblemusprime wrote:Does this mean he has interiors coming too? Oooh. This is the itch. I have had it scratched.

He's made it very clear in the past that, as amazed and proud as he is people love the work he did in the '80's, comics no longer hold much interest for him and Transformers in particular never really did in the first place (which is likely why he never did more than guest spots on the US and G2 books). The odd cover and maybe a quick job like that Titan comic he did (though IIRC, like so many, drawing the moviebots was frustrating for him) is always possible but I'd be surprised if we ever say a full 22 pages from him. The money is better in advertising and he enjoys the work more.Does this mean he has interiors coming too? Oooh. This is the itch. I have had it scratched.
I work within advertising at the moment, mainly as a writer, but partially as an illustrator.Predabot wrote:What DOES his advertising-work look like anyway...? And why the hell would any comic-book artist ever find THAT stuff more mentally rewarding than telling stories?
I've actually worked within advertising, very low-level simple stuff, yes, but I've done it. It's an ok job... there's a bit of creativity involved, but I can tell you this... compared to creating worlds, within worlds, within worlds, BEYOND those worlds...
Compared to the power cosmic that awaits us within the pages of a comic... compared to what a mind like Grant Morrison can conceive when UNCHAINED(!) Advertising is NOTHING!!
Take Jonathan Hickman for example, he used to do ads as well, before he got his shot at Marvel. Right before that, he was just about ready to put a gun to his head and blow his, or quite possibly, his boss's brains out.
So whatever the hell does Senior think he's doing that's so rewarding that he feels like he's not squandering his sequential talent?
( believe it or not, but being an illustrator is simpler than being a comic-artist. not everyone can build an impressive sequence)
Seriously. I wanna' see this stuff. It damn well better be hell'a' good. Anything else is a ******' tragedy.

No idea what he exactly does in advertising other than it usually involving cars, which he loves drawing. I got the impression he's at the very high earning level now though. He's found something he's enjoying and is earning a good living at it, so more power to the man.
Agreed. It would have been glorious...Just picked up the third in the Judge Dredd Restricted Casefiles series, and was pleasantly surprised to see in the credits Senior has some work in there. I can't think of an artist who would be a better fit for old'Stoney Face.
Used to be a graphic designer myself. =)Mr_Tigg wrote: I work within advertising at the moment, mainly as a writer, but partially as an illustrator.
I'm actually seriously considering dropping into freelance and trying to get some work in illustrating book / comic covers or something similar.
Advertising is well paid but it's hard to stay passionate about it.
I appreciate the kind words man. I'm not especially fussed about becoming a big deal - I'd just like to be successful enough to pay my way so to speak.Predabot wrote: Used to be a graphic designer myself. =)
Anyways, I think you should go for it, man. Save up some cash for a year or so, and then give it a go. Trust me, doing art can be very rewarding, life-changing even, and always for the better.
Even if you don't get big or whatever, you can always say that you tried. How many can say the same? Hardly anyone. Most just sit on their bottoms and suffer in silence, without passion, without hope.
Do it. You won't regret it.
