Solicitation info:
IDW PUBLISHING
Transformers #80.5
Simon Furman (w); Andrew Wildman (p), Stephen Baskerville (i); Wildman (c)
The wait is over–after a 20-year hiatus, IDW proudly returns to the original TRANSFORMERS comic book universe, picking up right where 1991’s TRANSFORMERS #80 left off! Optimus Prime, Grimlock, Kup, Hot Rod and all your favorite Generation One TRANSFORMERS characters charge into the future as fan-favorite writer Simon Furman and legendary Transformers artist Andrew Wildman present TRANSFORMERS #80.5! Reflecting back on the dizzying highs and the terrifying lows of the original run of Transformers comics, Optimus Prime watches over a Cybertron that hasn’t faced Megatron for decades. But that peace shudders to an end, as we dive headlong into July’s TRANSFORMERS #81!
Because the Fans demanded it! Thousands of TRANSFORMERS fans signed petitions urging us to make this book–and IDW listened!
(Because IDW ALWAYS listens to fans! )
Guys, I think Bleeding Cool has it wrong (shocking)- I think FCBD is May 5th, not March.

The art isn't quite up to Wildman's G1 era...but I still like it

That's because you're not looking at it through 20 years of nostalgia. Get back to me in 2031.Hound wrote:Preview page is up

Totally. Op's looking all Last Autobot rebuilt, Kup's facial expressions remind me of him bitching at Prime for keeping Ratchatron around. The thing that makes it less "old school" to me is the lack of viscous fluids, which Wildman looooved back in the Marvel days.

The colouring is terrible, Wildman's drawn everything cracked and worn out whilst it's all coloured as if it's shiny and new. They might as well have got Nel back if they were going to be half arsed about it.
As for the comic itself, I still can't care. We already have a great continuation of the Marvel comic in G2 and this seems to be completely missing the point of doing a retro continuation of a twenty year old comic with its desperate seeming efforts to make it "accessible" and up to date. It doesn't help Furman seems to be recycling the "After years of peace on Cybertron evil comes back" storyline from the Energon comic.
And if they had to do a twenty years later fresh start thing... why not include G2? Realistically I can't see any of the characters who were dead by the end of that playing an essential role (Nightbeat maybe?) so it'd just be a case of using the gap as an excuse for everyone to get back in the right bodies for a nostalgia book.
EDIT: Actually, if 80.5 is entirely about Prime painting his Action Master arms red because he doesn't like the blue it's be the greatest comic of all time.

So that inking--that new, shiny inking--was by Baskerville his very own self.
The gang's all here! Well, except Yomtov. Sorry, Yomtov,
Also: "Oh yeah, one last thing – categorically, #81-100 are not a lead in to G2. But neither are we exactly ignoring G2 either. Weird as that sounds, I think/hope it’ll kind of work. "

Or do one big poo in the morning and another one in the afternoon. I bet they weren't even excited by and then subsequently disappointed by Star Wars Prequels. Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

Sure, that's actually a reasonable suggestion. =)DJ_Convoy wrote:Understandable... but check out the FCBD issue... and I think that'll give you enough to decide to continue on or not.
Hopefully there'll be some left at my not-so-local comic-book store, once FCBD rolls out... 0-0 Hopefully it's in april..
