I'm... I'm at a loss for words... I'm truly shocked.

In an actual state of terrible shock...

"Horrible" isn't really the word I was looking for. "Shocked" is more like it.

Not because it isn't a sound business deal because it probably is, but because it looked like Marvel was going big league with their movie franchise and studio success.

It just seems to come at a strange time, when Marvel might have been having visions of being the "adult Disney" of the future.

Stan Lee really wanted to make sure his Grandchildren's grandchildren never have to work a day in their life.

Mission accomplished imo.

I knew that Optimouse Prime and Bumble Duck were dire signs of something horrible to come.... but this surprised me too.

I cannot fathom why Marvel couldn't just, you know, own itself. It's a company that has been flourishing (with small ups and downs) since WWII.

I already hear people saying that stuff like "Marvel Super Hero Squad" will be the future of Marvel, which would be just painful (if you don't know it, imagine Robot Heroes toys - in animation. Not horrible, it's just not aimed at us but at 10 year olds).

Marvel will be a part of Disney in the same way Miramax is. Miramax put out Kill Bill. Nothing to worry about it. Biggest difference? Marvel will be able to afford to keep publishing comics that aren't selling terribly well.

I'm with the smooth(est?) one here; surly this can only be for the better.
After all its not like everything is suddenly going to be placed under a Disney tinted filter.

It's like, I'm SURE that there will be some buisness decision made by Disney that affects the Marvel stuff that will piss me off. But the question is, is

that incident > Pixar Marvel Movies?

And that answer as far as I can tell is no.

Just to add to this, apparently the deal that went down will not affect any previous deals marvel had with any other companys.

"Right now, Marvel and Disney are saying that their merger won't affect any preexisting deals that Marvel has with other studios' comic book movie adaptations, even as they suggest that someday those characters could possibly return to their fold, cinematically speaking. "It's the right thing from a legal perspective [to honor Marvel's existing deals with other studios]," Disney honcho Robert Iger told The Hollywood Reporter. But Iger also said that, in the future, Disney will likely serve as the sole distributor of Marvel's films, a claim that has understandably riled the rival studios behind such franchises as Spider-Man, X-Men, and Fantastic Four. SO i was not worried at first because i found out how Miramax made kill bill and Miramax is owned by disney. Well, this is true but kill bill was release BEFORE disney acquired Miramax. :(

Founded in 1979 by Bob and Harvey Weinstein and headquartered in New York City, Miramax was a leading independent film motion picture distribution and production company before it was acquired by Disney in 1993. The Weinsteins operated Miramax with more creative and financial independence than any other division of Disney, until 2005 when they decided to leave the company and founded The Weinstein Company, Since the Weinsteins' departure in late 2005, Miramax Films is operated by Daniel Battsek who reports to Dick Cook, chairman of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

kill bill 1: Release date(s) October 10, 2003
kill bill 2: Release date(s) April 16, 2004

So ya this horrible news has turned out to be very very very bad indeed. :( At least will enyjoy all the stuff that is made before disney taints it. :( DAMNIT!!

SO, really, what you're saying is:

Kill Bill was made DURING the period when Miramax was a near-autonomous subsidiary of Disney, whereas now it is not nearly as autonomous and your worry is that the same thing will happen with Marvel.

Don't worry, guys. Joe Quesada would never allow the Marvel Universe to get horribly screwed up.

Marvel now has **** loads of cash to spend!

How can this be bad?

Seriously, directors and such ,creative teams etc... arnt simply all going to be sacked if they are doing thier jobs well. they will be allowed to continue to do thier job well, and to run Marvel at a profit. Only now, you have A fat surgar daddy in your pocket.

This is good news, any other speculation is based on dumb ass buissness models.

I wonder just how much impact this will have, though, on the ongoing debate about shucking old continuity in favor of getting new readers. With even more bigwiggers and bottom-liners wanting their seven-figure salaries paid by Spidey and Wolverine, I trust Marvel to handle the characters well even less than I did after "One More Day."

Or, 20 years from now, they'l fold the remainder of the rapidly collapsing (For the last couple of decades and the foreseeable future) Disney's assets into their most successful and highest profile subsidiary. With a high chance by then of that being Marvel.

Actually positive.

Post by Predabot » Wed Oct 21, 2009 6:22 pm

Yeah, I'm actually more positive about the upcoming deal now. I've just been reading SOOOO many comic-book pro's, even freelancers and guys that aren't employed by Marvel, say that it's a good thing.

If all those blokes and lass's think it's a good thing, then who am I to argue? :)

Weird. Mine's working fine. Well, aside from not inserting the word "that" at relevant points.

I shudder to think what it looks like raw.
