I like this new side of Don, that he's changing up his style. A little bit less anime, a bit more gritty. Not quite sure about Prime's mouth and the whole movie-like alien-looking faces tho.

I'll pick this issue up tho, which will make it the first AHM issue I'll be reading. :)

The furmo taking on another TF series sounds eggcelent as well, and definitely something I'll be keeping an eye on.

Hmm... I wonder, could it be featuring Metroplex, Trypticon, Sixshot, an intro of Quickswitch, and a return of the Pretenders?

There's some neat characters that could use a bit more characterization.

Really not feeling the art at all - it's too movie-like which is not a good look.

Is this 100% Don Figuera doing the interior art? I'm not so sure. Firstly some of the proportions on the faces are way, way off and Don's normally pretty good at faces. Regardless of any aesthetic changes he may have made to his style, I would've thought he'd be able to maintain the quality of his linework. Quite frankly some of the work in this preview is plain sloppy - a very 'un-figuera' characteristic of Don's art (he's usually spot on the mark with proportions, etc, producing clean, crisp artwork).

Looks to me like a new artist trying to imitate Don's style with a dollup of movie aesthetic thrown in for good measure. If it is Don then all I can say is he's let himself go a tad.

The Prime mouth plate business as well - don't like it one bit - are Hasbro throwing their weight to try and get the comics to fit in with the ****** mainstream movies?

I hate this new style. Prime looks like some alien bug with those eyes, and Ironhide resembles a decaying corpse (this look was fine for Cyclonus, him being undead and all that).

And for the love of Primus, must they give G1 Prime a face too? I could live with Animated OP's mouth, he's a totally different character...

As for Furman's new series, hate to burst the bubble but I bet he mains the ROTF comic he's writing with Mowry.

They gotta stop pushing this movie **** on us.

If Hasbro thinks we're going to just chuck G1 for the movieverse, they better think again. I mean, they can try, but comic fans are a different bunch from the movie fans, for the most part I think.

Who says they want us to chuck G1?

The way I see it, the Movieverse is just another continuity, like the Unicron Trilogy, RID, etc.

We didn't chuck G1 comics back when there was Armada/Energon (okay, we did, but that was because of a certain supahstah, rather than alternatives), I don't think people will be chucking G1 in favour of the Movieverse.

As to the new style, it reminds me somewhat of Dan Reed's stuff from Marvel UK, but given the more realistic detail we've seen throughout IDW.

Hope you're right, because I can see the higher ups at Hasbro thinking, "Wow, this movie raked in almost a billion dollars, let's go with this, get fans to love these characters, and in return, buy our toys"

I mean, think back to the eighties. What got me to buy over 200 Transformer toys? The comic did. It was advertising for the toy.

Along these lines, I can see Hasbro thinking the same way. The newer generation of kids doesn't know G1. They know the movieverse. They know Animated.

I heard that Hasbro was upset with the way Bay handled the movie (the sexual aspects, the swearing, etc) but when they saw the numbers, they turned their faces away despite numerous complaints by mothers around the world.

Again, I think that because G1 fans are a vocal lot, you're probably right. But when I see the movieverse comics selling only a thousand or so less than the G1 story, I worry a bit.

Interestingly Rebis, just saw this comment on the IDW boards regarding Activision:

Not Enough People Want A G1 Transformers Game [E3 2009]

Checking in on Activision’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, I chatted for a bit with producer Jason Ades, who explained the sad business truth behind the lack of a Generation One Transformers video game. While the Revenge of the Fallen game contains numerous references to the original Transformers series, with Aerialbots, Protectorbots, episodes of the cartoon, and a couple of unlockable G1 skins for multiplayer, we won’t be seeing a G1 game any time soon. Why? Because there isn’t enough demand. Despite the large and vocal group of G1 fans, a group that I consider myself a part of, Activision doesn’t consider that enough to launch a project based on the series. Unless Hasbro does something huge with the original toys and cartoons, that’s not likely to change any time soon. It’s a sad truth of the video game industry – there is a distinct lack of willingness to take chances. That’s one of the reasons Activision dropped Ghostbusters…why make a game without a major movie release to coincide with it? Ades put things into perspective for me, pointing out that the first Transformers movie video game, despite being a giant pile of suck, sold millions of copies. People today just aren’t as familiar with the origins of the franchise to gamble on the nostalgia factor alone. Perhaps the release of Atari’s Ghostbusters game will change that, and publishers will be more apt to look to the past for big name titles. This also seems to indicate that whatever High Moon is working on for Activision, it isn’t a Generation One Transformers title. Let the sadness ensue
.

Something along the lines of what I was saying.

Heck, it's a GOOD thing Activision is not making a G1 game. I mean... I just finished their ROTF game, and it sucked:

-There is no plot whatsoever, no cinematics - the few we have are made by showing us wireframes (WTF?) as some weird robo-vision, the scene transition are shown by everyone standing in a command center, TALKING nonsense (Cons usually say "Destruction is GOOD!") etc...

-Controls are horrible, you have to keep the right mouse button pushed down constantly to be able to aim, transforming is a mess - you have to keep the left button pressed to stay in alt mode (release it, you change back) - and worst thing is, once you transform you start speeding straight into the nearest building.

-The enemy AI is quite good, but predictable after a while. The levels are boring and most often you have to fight endless waves of enemy drones (whose design is not too bad, btw) while having to destroy/protect some building. Worse yet, the game area is limited, which makes playing jets like Starscream or Breakaway hard.

-Characters - around 2/3 of the movie chars is NOT in it... no Sideswipe, no Jolt, no Arcee(s), no twins (though I won't complain about that), no playable constructicons apart from Long Haul, no Ravage...

I'd like to see a good G1 game (a strategy game would be my dream come true) but please, do not let the same bunch of idiots do it. ROTF game had a credits list that took 10 minutes to run. You can't skip it. There is not even music during the credits....

But the fact that you can make a pile of suck slapped with a movie title sell better than a good video game for a niche demographic is something that's been going on in video games for at least a decade or two. From Ghostbusters 2 for the Nintendo to Enter the Matrix, that's the way its been. I don't think you can necessarily paint the comic book medium, or even the toy medium, with the same broad brush. In comics, the overhead for producing one comic is puny compared to making a current generation video game.

TBH I wouldn't care about the Coda art being movie-like if the "style" had any, well, STYLE to it. It just looks like a sloppy mosaic. I'm finding it hard to believe this is the same artist who gave us War Within and Stormbringer. Did he have his hands cut off since we last got an issue out of him, or just have brain surgery to excise any trace of artistic talent?

Good thing it's not all being done by the same artist.

As long as Movie Ravage gets his spine back, and can talk - I'll be happy. :)
