IDW Transformers @ Comic Con....

Post by Shanti418 » Sat Jul 26, 2008 7:01 am

Can be found here

Main Points?

1. Spotlight : Blurr
2. Hasbro is making a toy out of a character Guido is making for AHM.
3. More movie tie ins on the horizon obviously
4. Transformers : Maximum Dinbots, 5 ish series
5. THE THIRTEEN!

25 years of hints finally come into light when the definitive Transformers origin tale "Transformers: The 13" debuts in 2009.

"This is still evolving as we speak, but the story I'm working on is quite focused on a period way back in the Transformers history," Furman said of the origin. "We're not going to feed everything into an ongoing Transformers storyline. It's going to be very much its own start up story. It's the very beginning. We're winding things back to show how it all started and how the big forces that shaped everything else came to be.

"I've never really had the chance to lay down the definitive story around these guys and what role they played in what came after them. Over the years for various publishers in various publications, I've laid seeds of this group called The 13 and hinted about who some of them might be and how they play into the bigger mythos. I think this is where we're finding answers to all the big questions. We're working very closely with Hasbro in this series so that whatever we do in 'The 13' is very much tied in to the whole Transformers Universe. They want to get all of their irons in the fire ready and in the right order for 2009, which is the 25th anniversary. We're all working hopefully to get a definitive, cohesive Transformers Universe in terms of the back story."

The writer added that the threads introduced in "The 13" will eventually payoff in current series and plots and possibly elsewhere within the Transformers family of media. "It's interesting that the second movie is using this character called the Fallen, which is a character that we created back in the Dreamwave days for this big series called 'The Dark Ages' which tapped into what had gone before. So these names and institutions like The 13 are rolling on into different incarnations."
Which leads one to think two things:

1. Holy $%*$# that's going to be awesome! I NEVER thought Furman was going to tie in Marvel/G2/DW events into his IDW continuity.
2. The Fallen is in Transformers 2? I thought "The Fallen" was a reference to Megatron (who fell into the ocean) or something. WHY O WHY are they picking up DW concepts and dusting them off for movies? Even now, Pat Lee haunts us all.

-I have seen Drift's design - it's nothing really special. I'd have preferred if they'd be making a more important character into a toy, say maybe Nemesis Prime, Jhiaxus...

Love how the cover of Maximum Dinobots is pretty much a joke on AHM... :)

Can't wait for the 13, and since Simon will be writing the official comic for the 2. movie, I'm certain he's sure when he says the Fallen will be in the movie... that's gonna be interesting.

Another panel, this time also including Joe stuff. TF-wise the same as above, plus one other thing - Spotlight: Cosmos. Unless they were joking, but I read it twice just to be sure and that doesn't seem to be the case. :o

Another slide was shown—this time of Megatron holding Reflector; in mock homage to the Joker on the cover of A Killing Joke—which elicited a big chuckle from the panel and the audience.
That cover rules.

I found the cover of Grimlock smashing his way through Klaus's AHM cover and shouting "All hail me... Grimlock!" rather funny. Looking forward to Maximum Dinobots and the Thirteen. Oh, and spotlights Blurr and Cosmos (yeah, him).

Oh, and Hasbro. When are Emirate Xarron, Impactor, Rack 'n Ruin, Straxus, Jhiaxus, Grindcore, Sentinel Prime and Nova Prime going to get toys? I mean Sunstorm and this new Drift chap got toys in next to no time. Think of the people who love to say they own a Impactor, Jhiaxus or a Straxus toy! Fan kudos all round!

Speaking of the Thirteen, who remembers that nutter Tramp who used to pop up at TFArchive and IDW's forums? Looks like his mad theories about the TFs universes being in canon with each other may be proven right! :o

Thats just mind blowing.

Ah' dunno'? Is it such a mad and strange idea really? That Primus can think in millions of different dimensions, and is perhaps connected with all of his incarnations?

On the other hand... it gets really confusing trying to piece it all together how that would work, Multiversal stuff.

Well.. if Simon with collaborators can make even WHEELIE a valid, deep character, then by the Primordial Program, then it must be possible for Cosmos as well. Maybe. :o

EDIT: Here's to hoping that Vector Prime will be one of the original 13. :) He's much too good a character not to use again.
