IDW present: The Revelations Saga
Post

http://ryalltime.blogspot.com/2008/03/r ... ealed.html
As everyone will see when the Previews catalog with June comics hits later this month, the final TRANSFORMERS storyline in Simon Furman's "-tion" saga will begin this summer. With it, we're doing something a little different--we're doing "The Revelations Saga" in four chapters, each presented as a TRANSFORMERS SPOTLIGHT. These four issues will feature a new character, folks like CYCLONUS, HARDHEAD and two others, and take place across the universe as the story Simon started in October 2005 has spread and grown into this huge epic.
E.J. Su will handle the covers for all four issues, and is slated to bookend the series, handling the first and last issue. Nick Roche will also provide covers for each issue, in a distinctive new style I'd show off right now if I had the images here at home. But maybe it's better to save those for a later reveal. For now, enjoy the sketch for E.J.'s four interlocking covers, as well as those of the first two issues. I joined the two together for you, too, since I'm nice like that.
Much more to come on this, as well as other upcoming TRANSFORMERS plans, but this is a good start to the week.
So, looks like it'll be Spotlight Wheelie in June, then these four "Spotlight: Revelations Saga" issues (probably concurrent with All Hail Megatron), then into "Revelations" proper.
Squee!
Grrr. Argh.

Yes.
Hope Hardhead survives - he is my new favourite 'bot.
Well, almost, Pipes still owns obviously.

Hrm. Seems that this IS Revelations, rather than a lead-in... which ain't necessarily a bad thing.
Excitement! Hoo ha.

Very dynamic.
Don't you guys think, that maybe it'd be possible to have E.J do an entire issue in his painted style? Some sort of special, perhaps a Nova Prime spotlight..?
It would seriously rock.

It's not really ending it though, it's just sort of rounding off the first chapter.
End of season 1, so to speak. Remember we've got All Hail Megatron at probably the same time, dealing with what's going off on Earth. But I get what you mean, a four issue "coda" to it isn't really the big event we [or I] expected...
Still funking cool to get a different approach, though. And not all that different to the Marvel crossover event stuff where part 1 is in one comic, part 2 in another, yadda yadda.

Ohhh... nicey! The change of format should have further insight into Nova Prime's expansion.
Why is it so far away?

On reflection, most of the DU-related stuff has happened in the Spotlights. Conclude it (or at least explode it to the fore) in the main book and you risk people not necessarily knowing what's going on.
Keeping it in the title that most of it's been in is a good play in my eyes.

This is quite exciting. It just feels odd to have it wrapped up in a 4 issue blot. I wonder what will happen next...
Agree about the awesome of Hardhead. I hope Hasbro are planning to make a classics version based on his IDW alt mode!

Yep, Nick's Hardhead cover is awesomeness drawn into the shape of a big green Autobot.
Not too sure about the Cyclonus angle though...his appearance in DW kinda made me suspicious of the character. Hopefully Furman will reinvent him properly though. I miss the bickering Cyclonus/Scourge combo of Marvel UK.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Simon spilled more info about why the Dead Universe had to be wrapped up so fast (don't like it much, sounds like he's being put under pressure like in DW where he had to include the zombie seekers and Quints in TWW because of Mad Brick):
OK. The plain fact is even the best laid plans/storylines need to adapt and evolve as they advance (over a three-year period), especially when new elements enter the mix (such as All Hail Megatron and my other upcoming IDW/TF-universe story). So yes, we’re drawing a line under the Dead Universe saga, and yes it’s in a different format, but that doesn’t mean it’s a big full stop. Far from it. And the stuff I had (mentally) prepared for Expansion may still happen, just later or in a different form. Where we go from here is limited only by our collective imaginations. Trust me, this isn’t an ending, just a series of potential beginnings…
Also, apparently Furman's father is Polish.
You hear, Ozz?

I can understand wrapping up the other threads in four issues, but the Dead Universe storyline? Come on.
I mean, yeah I've complained about the pacing, but whooooaaaaa Nelly, this is like a jump to lightspeed.
The Dead Universe plot had the potential to be something tremendous over many issues.
I still think it's all strange, the way this is wrapping up.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

On the one hand, this is all your fault Yaya!
But on the other... just because the Dead Universe arc is going to wrapped up doesn't mean we have seen the last of Nova Prime and his minions. Why did Furman have Galvatron go get Thunderwing off Cybertron if Revelations just has the crew of Ark-32 chin the Dead Universe with a blast from Hardhead's cannon?
What's to say that Revelations is Nova Prime making his big return to the main IDW universe despite efforts from someone to throw a spanner in the works? Remember, we only had a glimpse of the machinations behind the expansion. The Negacore from Spotlight: Acree for example. The fact that Galvatron, a crew member of the first ark, is 'undead' is another.

Beavis and Bunnyhead.
Agree with Yaya (accckkk!
) that the pacing shift seems pretty odd - this has felt like a background thread that is slowly moving to teh fore now it almost seems to have jumped to the back again.

I like the look of Cyc, makes him look more advanced than your average TF..
I hope we see a return to the Cyc & Scourge bickering of the arvel days. they were at the best then.
They came along way from T2006...

eh, as much as i love em - didn't they kind of go backwards from T2006?
They seemed to get a bit dimmer as time went on - especially Scourge, who seemed quite refined and cunning on first appearence.
Scourge vs 'bots in Factory - still one of the best TF scenes ever.

Also, they seemed to get almost instantly depowered as soon as they were separated from Galvatron, with only Scourge getting some lesser degree of that back in Time Wars.
It's like they went to being less than nails, while Galvatron became the hammer.

I was sort of getting at the point,in T2006, they are seem as tough as galvatron, but lack personality.
As they gain personality and charisma, they seem to become a bit cowardy and lose some of thier toughness at the sake of decent characters.
In wrecking havoc they are back to being evil and rock hard. Cyc taking a rather large shot to the chest, which only seems to dent the armour...
of course, sooner or later, Megatron catchs up with everyone...

Two page taster of Revelations: Spotlight: Cyclonus up at Ryall's blog.
http://ryalltime.blogspot.com/2008/03/w ... rhode.html
Also, Ryall confirmed that Revelations, All Hail Megatron and
eight other issues will be under the sub-numbering system.
http://idwpublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtop ... 9&start=18
So I guess the numbering is be something like this:
Revelations (23 - 26)
Unknown story/ies (27 - 34)
All Hail Megatron (35 - 46)

So what's Furman doing during the All Hail Megatron arc? I guess those 8 issues will run in parallel?
So glad EJ's on Revalations - its yummy. But who's drawing AHM?

Guido Guidi's doing art duties for AHM. His cover looks lovely in the 50's film poster sense.

Oh, and Besty. Can IDW top 100?

80 nowadays is the equivalent of about 30 old money, isn't it?
<insert unnecessary inflation pun here>
