Well, one thing I was completely wrong about.
I said if such a film doesn't have a strong story, it will flop.
So from this experience, I learned that not only does:
Good special effects + bad story= failure
Bad special effects + good story = failure
But,
Good special effects + good humor and cast + bad story still = success

This just in, Transformers bumps Harry Potter's highest grossing film here in the states.
19 Transformers P/DW $317,584,000
20 Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone WB $317,575,550
I think that will just about do it for the run here though. Shrek 3 sits at the 18th spot with over 321 million. Can TF beat it out, becoming the second highest grossing film of the year after Spiderman 3? Doubt it, but damn, what a stron run it had!
