"Cartoon Network Studios and Hasbro are co-producing a new animated Transformers series, which will premiere in January and is hoped to build on the momentum created by the highly anticipated live-action feature film opening July 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
There have been three other Transformers series on Cartoon Network and eight series altogether since 1984. But this is the first one Hasbro is co-producing with Cartoon rather than its Japanese toy and production partner, Takara.
Cartoon and Hasbro executives told the trade paper that the new series, Transformers Animated, will be significantly different from the others, adding humor, never-before-seen characters and a new premise in which the Autobots fight evil humans in superhero fashion much more frequently than they battle the Decepticons, the traditional Transformers enemy since the franchise launched as a toy line in 1984.
The animated series won't pick up on any of the themes from the Paramount/DreamWorks film, which is directed by Michael Bay.
In the new Cartoon series, the robots will have a lot more human qualities, allowing kids to identify with the characters much more than in previous series.
The plan is to produce 26 half-hour episodes, as well as a 90-minute special that will serve as the series premiere. Matt Youngberg (Teen Titans, The Batman) is the supervising director of the series, Sam Register (Teen Titans) will serve as executive producer."
Hmm, interesting... I'm genuinely pleased to see they're going to do something new with it. Much as I love the Japanese their most recent Transformers cartoon series have been rather anaemic and samey (whereas once they used to stand out- Headmasters and Masterforce are always good for a chortle and often surprisingly watchable).

TBH I quite like that idea. It addresses an issue I have with the 'Cons always being the protaganists (well, mostly- 99% of the G1 cartoon for example) and ALWAYS having to lose (because they're the villains). This could potentially make them much more menacing since they won't be getting beaten every single episode.
Re: More Transformers: Animated information
Does make them a bit fascist, though, doesn't it?
"We are giant alien spacerobots! Come from our planet to tell you how not to behave on yours!"
It's Superman. If Superman were huge and literally a man of steel.

I'm so glad the sentence continued beyond there...Karl Lynch wrote:will be significantly different from the others, adding humor, never-before-seen characters
Nono - it's spelt "anime-ic" Or is it with a é? I can never remember...Much as I love the Japanese their most recent Transformers cartoon series have been rather anaemic

Yes, but it also means that there will be little-to-no action due to the Decepticons being out of the way and the Autobot code of not harming humans. Also, with the 'cons being very minor, why are they on Earth? Being superheroes nonetheless? Weren't they supposed to be in a civil war or something? This new show honestly doesn't feel like Transformers to me. Maybe the toys will be good, but if this show is aimed at small children like I think it is, the toys will be like the playskool Go-Bots from a while back. I hope I'm wrong.Karl Lynch wrote:TBH I quite like that idea. Has as much to do with Transformers as most of the media made about it seems to imo- i.e. big transforming robots that fight. It sounds like they may have some personality (always good) and designs which I can at least tell apart. TBH whether they fight the Decepticons every week or once ever few eps is irrelevant to me if the stories are enjoyable and varied. Not fighting the Cons all the time sounds varied to me, long as the people they're up against instead are worthwhile. Diversity and lee-way leads to imaginative story writing imoHot Shot wrote: Yes, but it also means that there will be little-to-no action due to the Decepticons being out of the way and the Autobot code of not harming humans. Regarding why the TF's are there, god knows. Makes the story more interesting than if they were on the Moon I guess. I'm sure there will be any number of explanations, I'd guess it would be something like both factions turn up on Earth, the governments work out the Bots are good and ask for their help not only against the Cons but against other baddies in return for resources to get back home (similar to the Blackrock stuff in the comics).
In the final analysis the word 'superheroes' doesn't phase me much as that's what I've always considered them. They're big metallic superheroes fighting for good or evil, the same as every other superhero franchise.

I looked at it in my MSPaint program and it looks like either the creator had lots of patience to make it or it's real. I found it on this page a while back at TFW. Maybe BB can ask the guy who posted it.Karl Lynch wrote:Looks suspiciously like a composite made from Prime in MSPaint

So will these humans be super powered? Or are giant robots going to be dealing with bank robbers and killers?

Re: More Transformers: Animated information
I... don't know what to say.. I've wanted a return to a more western-produced Transformers-series for some time, since the japanese series have often been less than stellar ( granted, Cybertron had a few bright spots, but not a patch on the Mainframe beast-toons) but... This wasn't quite what I had in mind.
Hmm. I'm honestly a bit confused, are the Autobots and Decepticons actually from outer-space this time? Or are they man-made? Alá GoBots.

Yeah... that IS weird. So far every animated series I've seen, that has come out of a feature film has been based on said movie... I would have quite liked a series based on the new movie, but alas..spiderfrommars wrote:Weird.Karl Lynch wrote:

Off the top of my head, it seems like the movie designs would be a bitch to draw and animate.
Conversly though, if they wanted to do a Beast Wars CGI type thing, hypothetically speaking, would they be able to utilize the CGI movie designs in some way to make production quicker/easier?

TFW updated with a poster featuring all of the Autobots.
Left to right(vehicle mode):
Ratchet
Prowl
Optimus Prime
Bumblebee
Bulkhead
The show looks okay, but I'm still worried about the sypnosis. At least it looks like we'll get some pretty cool figures in the process.

I think we can go ahead and show everyone the goods here
So we've gone from (in the previous TF: Animated thread) absolute hatred of this show, its animation, and everything else regarding this to.....
I'm outta here if Smooth moves into a monastary.
Ah yes, and thoughts about the pic:
-LOVE the RiDish Alt mode for Op of course.
-Is that Hound or Movie Starscream?
-Bumblebee is having a bad year in terms of having a mouth.
-Is that ambulance First Aid? Ratchet? Red Alert? Place your bets.

And people say Transfans doesn't teach tolerance. Hot Shot has learned to love the super deformed animation. It wasn't really a matter of learning tolerence. I used to watch Teen Titans until the show began to get boring and repetitive around the last season. I was largely negative to the first promo pic of the new show because it took the cover-boy of TFs and made him look like a DC Comics ripoff. The new pic shows much improvement to his body shape and head to where he actually looks like his namesake. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a skeptic to TF:A and I'm nowhere near even accepting Bayformers as actual TFs, but I think the new show just took a step in the right direction.Shanti418 wrote:So we've gone from (in the previous TF: Animated thread) absolute hatred of this show, its animation, and everything else regarding this to.....
