Looks pretty good, in a Michael Bay Popcorn Action Movie kinda way. Though obviously that's the point of a trailer...

Actually - how stupid is Ironhide? He and the others must hide before Sam's parents... so does he transform into a car and just parks there? No, of course not. Because coming out of a pool scaring children is cool, y'know. If they want to do a scene so badly, at least do it logically. But then, I didn't do it this time.Legion wrote:hmmm not bad...
was kinda hoping they'd keep the old cartoon transforming noise, but hey ho...
oh and how deep is that swimming pool?
Those who read the script probably recognised a lots of scenes, but there was a new one... that TF with shoulder blades that'd make the Shredder cry - actually it's Scorponok, I think - I saw his claws when he ran - ramming the bus was a new scene. I wonder where it fist.
Oh and check it out, Blackout has a head like Treebeard's! Complete with 'angry' eyebrows!:D

meh, it's a multimillion dollar movie trailer so it's designed to look good just as brend said.
Not really enough to comment on as such- lots of random shots of things going bang and big robots appearing menacingly. The film itself could be anything.
On the bright side, having seen that I've probably now seen all the best bits and don't need to bother watching the actual flick

This trailer is seductive, people.
You know, we can rant and rave about this Bayathon for a whole year, and we can hate and hate on the movie.
But no matter how much we've read the script, or looked at the character designs and been revulsed, we are STILL TransFans.
And so when you see a trailer like this, it's impossible NOT to look at that scene where the copter transforms in front of the army, or where Optimus Prime is actually recognizable and just completly and utterly geek out.
But that doesn't mean that this movie will actually be decent. Decency is the exception for Michael Bay. It looks good and it wants you to like it. Like that ex girlfriend you don't want anything to do with, but you're drunk at the pub and she's all up in your grill wanting to go home with you. You've got to stay strong. You think it's tough now? Just wait until they show clips with Cullen dialogue to go with that Prime.
If that ****** even begins to say "Autbots, transform," we're all just goo and puddy in their hands, and we'll line up like lemmings to the box office? Is that where we are? :P

But that's what I'm saying, sprunk: The fan in you can't help but look at that and go, "cool!"! But no matter how cool that thing looks, it doesn't change the fact that Bay directed it and, like Impy said, the designs take very little from original G1 design.

There is no doubt that what we saw was cool as ####.
But my fear is that they will have a hard time showing personality and emotion with what I've seen so far. They are awfully complex, which isn't a good thing when you want character and emotion to shine through.
Some might say, "####, it's the action, not the story, we're going for."
That might be true, but after an hour and a half of nonstop robots transforming, even that can get old real fast. The coolness factor will only carry the movie so far before the "been there, done that" feeling that tends to happen with repetitious special effects sets in.
In order for this movie to have staying power, it has to be more than transforming robots. Even if the plot is ridiculous as ####, there HAS to be personality, there HAS to be character. Can these robots, as complex and cool looking as they are, give us personality?
That's my fear.

I agree, the complex designs, especially in the facial areas, looks fat to messy. This makes it hard for people to relate too - it will be interesting to se how much subtle emotional change can be conveyed from these arachnid face plates.
I was thinking how complex megatron is, he can go from sheer rage to doe eyed child in a flash, hes an unstable killer in a sense, a hannible lecter in the transformers world.
not sure if this is possible...

Exactly. I think it's a major ****up if they abandon mouths, for example. So much emotion can be conveyed with a smile or a frown.
Take "The Iron Giant", for example. Just a few moving recognizable facial parts, yet the big guy displayed the full range of emotion. Kids loved it. I loved it.
Even if it looks fake, I hope Bay didn't abandon the mouth.

I can't see any way in which he didn't abandon the mouth. I thought this whole face brouhaha is because you look at G1 figs with the human mouths, it doesn't make any sense as to how or why these robots came up with these anthropomorphic characteristics, nor would it be an easy job to recreate those in CGI without looking ridiculous.

I realized as I watched the trailer that I've never cared so much whether the movie sucks. I endured three years of awful comics from DW. Comics were what got me into Transformers in the first place, and it was like twisting a knife through my inner child's heart. So I think I can stand two hours of a mediocre movie, as long as I see a truck turn into a robot at some point.
Though I wasn't that underwhelmed as you were, I will admit it did not incite in me the same orgasmic feelings most have experienced across the message boards when I watched it.Karl Lynch wrote:meh, im not 'geeking out' in the slightest- i think it looks like every other trailer for every other blockbuster which is cranked out every other week
And I still can't exactly pinpoint the reason, but I think its because it reminds me too much of Godzilla, War of the Worlds, and ID4. It just almost felt "been there, done that" to me.

maybe I'm not a real fan anymore, i must say the only thing thats been exciting me recently is my masterpiece starscream (which i cant wait to receive) and looking forward to MP Megatron.
Most of the comics i can't be bothered to pick up, although I do hear some fabulous things about them from peeps here, and the movie just does nothing for me.

I hear you, but I think its premature to write the movie off without at least a single viewing in a nice theatre with a good sound system. We owe the Transformers franchise and Hasbro that much.Karl Lynch wrote: Most of the comics i can't be bothered to pick up, although I do hear some fabulous things about them from peeps here, and the movie just does nothing for me.
I like what I'm seeing, I am just concerned that the final product won't deliver the goods that our ultimately sky high expectations demand.

Looks great, but its tainted by my reading of that very poor quality script. Like seeing a fantastic chocolate cake, but reading the ingredients and knowing it chocolate flavouring and monosodium glutimate....
Unless there been a serious redraft, he's only going to be a pantomime, two-dimentional bad-guy. Unfortunatly, it wouldn't matter if he had no face.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:I agree, the complex designs, especially in the facial areas, looks fat to messy.
