Megs Head to Change...

Movie Megs head will, apparently, not be the techno organic vagina seen in leaked pictures...

fair play to Siebertron for taking it on the chin.

"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

Oh! I was just about to post this! Didn't show up in new posts, but I'm glad I checked first. :)

I will echo the sentiments: thank god. A new head, a few tweaks of the body here and there, and he might actually not look that bad.

THAT'S how you control movie production - leak all the bad designs and FORCE them to cook up new ones. :D

Careful.

We've no basis for assuming that the new head will actully look better than the leaked one. For all we know, he could be getting some kind of lizard or insect head.

And... a few tweaks of Megs' body here and there, and Ape-Index Starscream could become the looker of the Decepticons.

Better get that posted on Seibertron, so the Don will recognise it as being from the fans.

Don seems to be completely oblivious to how fan sites work. He goes out of his way to say that the design wasn't changed because of what Ryan posted on Seibertron, instead it was done for the fans.

The internet is not Hollywood. Ryan was not sitting around with his buddies over drinks and discussing 80's properties that might be bankable a few years down the line. He didn't say, "Boy! I'll bet that Transformers will be HUGE again 5 years down the line, I'll start a website and cash in!"

Let's look at the facts for just a moment:

1) Seibertron.com was built, almost in its entirety, by a guy named Ryan. One look at the site shows that effort has been spent. Any of you computer-savy guys probably know that the site didn't use any pre-made templates.

2) Because of the huge amount of content being viewed by a huge number of people, the site costs a LOT of money to keep running. Up until a year or so ago, Ryan politely rejected requests from advertisers. Several hundred dollars per month went into keeping the site up and it all came from out of pocket. That's money that could have gone into buying more Transformers. A few hundred dollars a month could EASILY buy every new TF figure released at that time.

3) It's a continued effort. New features show up on Seibertron with almost alarming regularity. In the past 3 years, the site has added photo galleries (now the largest collection on the internet), a toy-sightings section, a text-based game, a database of toy, comic, cartoon, and person data encompassing the vast majority of all TF data you could want, and a section dedicated entirely to interviews.

Now, when you hear Don Murphy set the webmaster of Seibertron.com APART from "the fans," doesn't it seem a bit silly to you?

In all honesty, though, I've seen the stats. When Ryan posted that "THIS IS MEGATRON!" article, pageviews went through the roof and the article was linked to by hundreds of non-TF movie sites within days. He's free to deny it all he likes, but I'd be very surprised if Ryan's article on Seibertron.com didn't have at least a little to do with the change in Megatron's head.

Actually, to go OT for a moment, that's one of the most annoying things about Seibertron - not the wealth of features (the database has been invaluable to me lately) but the fact that every time I visit the site has changed somehow, I mean, how many redesigns has it had this year?

Yeah, part of the reason I stopped going there was that every time I turned up I had to re-register because the message board had been upgraded/replaced/whatever.

And all the fabby funky features meant it took forever for anything to load. I don't know if that's still an issue, but I don't feel like I'm missing out by not going.

Anyway, back on topic - that Megatron image was always labelled as early unfinished concept art. The inference was always that the final product would vary in some way. Nobody should even be raising the notion that "it's been changed because [X person in the fandom] didn't like it", let alone refuting it.
Grrr. Argh.

Regarding Seibertron.com, I believe the last update was in the 4th quarter of 2005. The slowdown experienced while the site was having so many new features added has been fixed. If there's anything on that site you can make use of, give it another shot.

Gonna keep most of my message board rantings here on Transfans.net, though. Nothing against the Seibertron.com posters, but I find my blood-pressure rises when I post on other TF boards... ;)
