New Andrew Wildman Project [Non TF]

Post by Best First » Thu Sep 14, 2006 9:15 pm

The lovely Mr Wildman has a new piece of comic work coming out - details below:

MAGIC THEATRE
Comics creators Andrew (Transformers) Wildman and Jason (Bulldog Empire)
Cobley have just announced their new upcoming graphic novel project.
'Magic Theatre' is the first collaboration between writer Jason Cobley and
artist Andrew Wildman. The book is an unusual, music and lyric-based tale,
which they are describing as ³a story of the development and resolution of
the human spirit, inspired by the themes and lyrics of Kula Shaker; written
with the co-operation and support of the band.² and is being put together to
coincide with the release of Kula Shaker's third album release.

The book will be launched in the first instance by the publishing side of
WILDideas, Andrew's design and ideas studio based in Oxfordshire, England.
The development of the book (due for publication in February 2007) is being
catalogued at the Magic Theatre blog at http:magictheatre.wordpress.com
where there will be constant updates about the whole writing and design
process.

Who did the art for the cover of 'K'? I always really liked that.

But lets get Andy on some interior TF stuff soon, eh?

Don't think he's doing a one-shot, but definitely something TF-related:
http://wildwords.wordpress.com/2006/09/ ... w-project/

Sounds like a GI Joe/TF crossover - "two of the books that I first cut my teeth on" - and it's for a publisher he's not worked with before, so probably not IDW as he's done covers for them.

That's what I thought this topic was about actually, this being a TF site and all, and Kula Shaker being a bit, well, wank.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

I'm not criticising - bigging up Andy W is what I'm all about - but the announcement this week that he's doing another TF project is far more exciting to me than the news that he's illustrating some of Crispian Mills's psuedo-mystical bollocks...

...actually, just been reading up on Kula Shaker over on Wikipedia...Mills really was a bit of a ****, wasn't he?

He had a tendency to open his mouth without thinking things through, as I recall. Never paid too much attention to him beyond the music. Though I do remember he made a bit of a tit out of himself by babbling on about the swastika.

Had a handful of decent tracks, but swiftly disappeared up Mills' pretentious arse when they failed to realise it was the indie-lite stuff that made them popular, not the mystical prog gubbins that they fleshed the album out with.

Their version of Hush was quite good. There's no need for them nowadays, though.

Galvatron hires Venkman and the team to exorcise Starscream's ghost from his Decepticon army.

I'm sure I've read that somewhere before... ;)

According to wikipedia it went something along the lines of:

"The swastika is a brilliant symbol, it means love and harmony. Hitler really knew what he was doing when he chose it."
"I want to do a gig in front of a big ***-off flaming swastika."

...

"No, you idiots, I meant the Indian swastika, which means love and harmony."

...

"Hmmm. For some reason people still associate the swastika with the Nazis."

...

"I'm very sorry everyone it won't happen again."

Common sense not a major quality of his, then.

But, as I've said before, if I only liked music made by people who aren't prats on some level, I'd own about three songs... :(

It is indeed, as I do, in fact, own a copy of K that still makes its way into my playlist occasionally.

Oh, and a friend told me the other night that Mills has always been into his comics:

Dave Gibbons, according to same mate.

All I know about Kula Shaker comes from Rock Proflie...

I have a incling I may know what the TF project with a new publisher might be, but I won't go into details as

A: I was sworn to secrecy.
B: At the time I learnt of it there was no mention of Andrews name being attatched (though that can have changed, lotsa bods were involved)

and

C: No matter what it turns out to be I can now just go "Yeah, I knew all along- Loosers!". Ahem.

I will say that if it's what I'm thinking of the earliest we'll see it is start of the year, but if the people behind it have any sene it'll most start be out around Movie time.
