That sounds absolutely god awful.
'We strive for realism' he says, whilst directing a film which runs on the central premise of a kid finding magical glasses that tell him where to find 'the energon cube' before he tries to sell it on ebay and gets found out by the Transformers.
Jesus.
Good to hear a 'secret military organisation' will be involved too... bet that'll be some original take involving a megalomaniac commander, shadowy methods and resources etc. etc.
Where's Pat Lee? Shouldn't he be a consultant?

Oh, sweet, Bay's idea of a shout out to fans is to burn Furbys. Like "Look at this short lived toy success by Hasbro from the past! It's just like Transformers!"
F****** glasses. You can't do Transformers First Contact better than the comic, imho.

As much as the Ebay/Glasses shizzle shook me a little, i have to say this interview (for those that haven’t seen it) well... it restores a little faith.
I think...
Kinda...
Ok i just want to leave again with my legs intact..

Same here...they seem to be caught between a rock and a hard place. Murphy's attitude to the haters is pretty much the same as mine right now, we really haven't seen anything yet. I'm going to try and keep my mouth shut until I've seen this thing in the cinema, and if it sucks then I'll shout it all over the internet, but the frequent comparisons with X-Men are very reassuring.spiderfrommars wrote:I have to say, I quite liked their attitude.

Did I read that right?
Magic ****** glasses? This is sounding like Optimus and the Chocolate Factory.
Is this Bumblebee in Wonderland? Can we expect Frenzy puffing on a giant mushroom?
Guess I will reserve judgement.....hmmmmm.....too late.

"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

X Men comparisons are good. Except, when you do the math, it turns out that
Bryan Singer > Michael Bay + 1000
I WILL say I liked the attitude. I hate how wheneever anyone asks Tom about being loyal to the material, he always just throws out TF vernacular like he's pissing on a fire. "Sure I like Transformers! Optimus Prime! Megatron! Headmasters! Beast Wars! See? I like Transformers!"

I wrote that above before I'd seen the Megatron designs (they were taken down at AICN).
I have revised my opinion to:
as it's kind of hard to put into words.

I'm not sure why the big players on this movie keep defending decisions which just sound freaking stupid by saying "Well X-Men turned out okay, didn't it?"
AFAIK X-Men had a totally different director, writer, cast, composer... in fact their only commonality is that repulsive blob Don Murphy.
Hardly inspires confidence. Sounds more like someone driving around a muddy field, despite their passenger complaining it's a wrong turn, constantly repeating "Hey it's okay- I found Exeter that time didn't I?"

So are you saying there have been so many iterations of Megatron that this design isn't entirely out of the realm of reason, or are you saying that it sticks out like a sore thumb?
I mean, that lineup doesn't even take into account the Armada/Energon/G2/Beasts versions, let alone the RiD version.

I must admit, this movie does have entertainment value...
I mean there's the people claiming it's an abomination that these things have been given the names of beloved characters... reminds me of, oh every new series ever? The only major difference being that we were sold this movie on the premise of it being "G1" instead of a new franchise.
And then there's [often the same] people claiming it's an abomination that these things have been given new names instead of being pre-existing characters. Oftentimes these people will be the ones extolling the virtues of the original movie, which existed solely to push brand new characters at us.
It's awesome even before you throw in Teh Magic Specs of Doom!

He sticks out like a sore thumb - that transtech line has a spook megs design...
Even the transtech one looks better.
My problem is- I dont mind optimus is a big truck, good. flames is bad - but that image of him transformed makes him look less bulky and to be honest after all the hyper over realism Optimus looks un-realistic.
Now megatron - whoah! he looks utterly alien, so I thought of this, perhaps thats his cybertron mode or somthing where they all look like metal humanoid insects or somthing.
why couldnt I just see a Tank stand upinto a robot - seems ok with bumblebee even if the name is stupid on a hotrod character...

Gosh. I just realised, the same way 'Blackout' and 'Brawl' were real names of the new characters, the "Energon cube" will be just that, an ENERGON cube. No Matrix. One freaking Energon cube, which, in every TF storyline so far can be found and manufactured easily everywhere.
Brendocon - I wouldn't mind new characters in, say, a new series like the Cybertron/Energon was. But, with Hasbro restarting G1 with Classics and Titanium, it struck me as odd that Bay simply introduces new characters because, for example, he wants a Con police car. Lame.
That's Transtech Megs? So that's what the origin of the monstorsity is. I'm glad they never made that into a toy... looks nothing like Megs.
And please, Megatron has been many things surely, but two things are mostly true about his form:
-He almost always has a huge cannon/gun
-He usually transforms into something that's armed to the teeth.
Btw, that big-headed Megs is funny. Is that an actual toy?
Frankly, if they wanted an 'alien' Megs, they should have used the Ultra-Megatron design from Zone. That is simply the old G1 design updated and cybertronised, just like the TWW one.
And uh, magic glasses? Ebay? Sheesh. I guess we'll see a scene where Starscream gets mail: "Hi, SWindle here. Guess what I found browsing Ebay..."
I wish Zemeckis would have done the directing, as the first rumors stated...

A director doing a TF movie with THAT attitude? I mean, heck did he ever read say, "National Interest" or "All this and civil war 2"? What cannot be made to look realistic about giant robot war on earth?Overall, director Bay told SCI FI Wire that the movie strives for realism, despite its cartoony origins. "I only wanted to do Transformers if I could do it realistic," Bay said in an interview. "And from what I've seen and what we've done with our digital studies, putting it in real-world stuff, that is lots of effects around that are real effects, that's how we make it realistic." When Bay got the first call from producer Steven Spielberg, he said, "My first thought was, 'Nah, I'm not interested.' And just because I thought, 'OK, how am I going to do a toy movie?' And then I realized, when I went to Hasbro, 'OK, start over and go for [a] realistic alien-invasion-robot movie on Earth.' And so, with that thinking in mind, that's how I went about it."
I wish Zemeckis would have done the directing, as the first rumors stated...
"I've come to believe you are working for the enemy, Vervain. There is no other explanation... for your idiocy." (General Woundwort)
