Interesting. Small cast though, doesn't quite fit with the huge 'invasion' it seemed to be billed as. Ho hum.

The Autobot line up, while pleasing, is pretty generic. Especially compaired to the Deception line up which has several new characters.

The 'bot lineup doesn't seem to serve any real military purpose either.

1. Prime- ultimate leader, inspiration to all our forces, holder of our essence-of-God-life-giving-arteface. Why dump him on an inhospitable world to fight guerilla warfare with a small band of soldiers with a good chance of getting snuffed?

2. Ironhide. One warrior. ONE. To face about 6 Decepticon killing machines, we attached ONE soldier to this mission.

3. Ratchet. He's going to be needed considering how poorly thought out this lineup is.

4. Bumblebee- scout. We're facing some of the most evil and powerful creatures in the Universe and we're packing... a snout. Wow. So when he comes back and tells us we're massively outnumbered and outgunned, at least we'll know where we stand!

5. Jazz- we had a spare seat and he had nothing better to do.

Given the set up wouldn't a commando unit be better? Like the Dinobots? People who are trained warriors, used to alien worlds, able to get the job done... rather than a ragbag collection of Who's-Who from the Autobot ranks.

At least the Decepticon lineup sounds vaguely suited to an undercover mission of conquest, if a bit thin on numbers. Prime's bunch sounds like an outing of mates going on a picnic!

This is what I wanted to know.

Then it hit me.

Toys......must sell toys....

I wish they had kept to their word and made this G1. As far as I'm concerned, this is yet another Armada-like/Cybertron-like/Energon-like reboot with characters with the same names.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

But lets take optimus, he has new body but its almost the same as before - so they can still make a new toy to sell.

I'm rarely happy with things I don't like.

Those pictures look pretty rotten imo :( Why on earth have they got wires, pipes and bits of machinery exposed, surely they'd be covered in some sort of armour? Unless they have more 'skin' to add by CGI, but it doesn't look likely.

Bumblebee seems to be the illegitimate sprog of Robocop II.

Wonder what Megsy looks like?

And Scorponok looks like a house robot out of Robot Wars.

Looks like, obviously to 'help' the audience tell the good guys from the bad, the Autobots will have relatively pleasant appearances, while the Decepticons will look 'nasty'.

Hopefully they might do some last minute renaming as well in the style of Star Wars- like General Grievous etc. That way the audience will be in no doubt who the villains are. As Maddox observed - "Why not just name the characters 'good' and 'bad'?" :D

Starscream looks like an orangutan.

I mean, I like orangutans and all, heck they're my favourite primate, but they're not quite what I had in mind for Decepticon aerospace commander..

Those recent car ads (transforming robot dancing, skating) showed you can stick with the classic sort of appearance and keep flexibility. Don't know why they didn't go for that sleeker look myself.

I'm not fussed about there being new characters, so long as they fit the function required of them in the story.

Yeah, it'd be nice to have Thundercracker in it, but if part of the plot requires a police car, I'd prefer it to be a character created specifically for that role than trying to wedge Dead End or somebody into it. Especially after the whole Juggernaut-in-name-only bit of X3...

New continuity. Reboot, yadda yadda. I'm cool with that. Complete divorce from what's gone before.

And I get to laugh at the robot modes. :o

redesigns and the cast list bother me far less than some of the characher descriptions, it all sounds pretty cartoonlike to me, which is not an apporach i would tend to favour.

that said i'm judging on fairly scant descriptions, so hopefully there will be a bit more to characters like Brawl & Bonecrusher than is implied above.

Well... that was certainly different.. And I'm a bit disappointed that not more of the classic Con's are in it.. I mean heck! It's all classic Autobots! But nearly no classic cons??

Scorponoks toy looks ace tho. Love that scorpion. :o

I must look closer for Starscream... Bumblebee didn't look entirely horrid tho.

EDIT: AAAAAARRRGH!!! :x They DID go with Munkey-scream after all! Dear god... he looks like fricken Beast Machines Skywarp/Jetstorm... Madness!

And if they are all in proportion to their alt modes, Screamer will be gigantic compared to the 'bots. Not neccessarily a bad thing. If he is so massive the simian frame may look more suitable than his traditional style. As long as the characterisation is there, it could be ok...

I agree with Impy about Prime and Bumblebee.....they just dont look right. That whole skeletal thing; it just doesn't say TFs. They could almost be any generic sci-fi robots.

I've just realised what's bugging me on it.

They've been designed as vehicles than change into robots.

Rather than robots that are hiding in vehicles.

If that makes sense.

That is again, such a classic line that I'll have to quote it in my sig... :) Hope you don't mind.

And btw orangutans are my fav. primates as well... I even held one (well a very small one...) in my hand once.
