Transformers:Prime Directive Script Reviews

Post by Wunderthing » Mon Jun 12, 2006 1:43 am

Hi all

Been away a while and just did a quick search but I couldn't find any reference to these so I thought I'd link them up. Apologies if this has been posted before and I've missed them.

Latino Review and Movie Reporter both have reviews of the script online - definately spoilers but nothing that reveals the entire movie.

Am I the only one to be concerned that Bumblebee's now a Camaro? Seems a bit too much of a muscle car for the little guy...

all the cars seem like they are from the US in another splendid bit of total US insularism...

Bumble-bee - FFS look at the name, does that say MUSCLE CAR!!!...

Well, the important thing to remember is that the scripts been changed since, so hopefully they've chosen a better car... :o

What model of car is his new mode in the MTMTE-line? That seems pretty fitting.

Not much else to do then chose a new mode, when WV absolutely doesn't want him to be a WV-model.

Um... I don't feel like spoiling myself too much, but on the other hand, when I read one of these earlier scripts for Godzilla, it was basically nothing like the actual movie. Maybe you lads can tell me about what's the most suckiest in the script?

IMO the battle scenes sound quite good. What strikes me as suckiest at the mo is two of the alt mode choices. Bumblebee being a muscle car - I mean fine, he can't be a VW but a muscle car kinda negates the character for me. It's like getting Arnold Schwarzenegger to play Peter Parker.

Secondly Megatron's alt mode - again, I understand the reasons not to go with a gun but there's other choices that could've been so much more appropriate to the character.

Other than that I'm in "wait and see" mode. Even the focus on the humans might work out OK (after all the early comics focussed heavily on the Witwickys and it could work as a way to bring the audience into the Transformer world rather than just hit 'em straight with battling robots).

mm, i thing a degre of flexibility with Alt modes is fine, but stary too far, as they seem to be doing and again you wate a lot of the icon imagery from the franchise.

True, but whose icon imagry is it, us old folks who STILL want a gun, or the 8-18 year olds who have grown up on Armada (tank), Energon (alien jet), and Cybertron (jet/car thingie)?

I'm just saying, I don't like Megatron being an alien jet either, but I think that it's not the huge faux pas it first appears to be. I don't even mind Soundwave being cassette size.

Cheers Spidey. :) I had seen the pictures of the actors, but I had yet to see any of the vehicle-shots. That big ass grey tank has just the right features btw... :o

Whilst I agree with that to an extent I think some of the reasons the later franchises were IMO weak were because they wasted some basic TF design points.

Alot of the G1 transformers have names that reflect thier character and generally thier Alt form to some degree - I hope they dont miss this just for product placement. Bumble-Bee to me is small, yellow with a bit of black etc... A big Muscle car is almost the opposite of this. For instace thats more sunstreaker to me..

I dunno about you, but these fake scripts have made me realise it even more - people are stupid.

Ever since they appeared, people started (all over the boards) starting to complain why Brawl is a polcie car, or Devastator a single entity. Some even like the ideas and start making ideas about how Brawl will change form from car to tank during the movie....

... totally not noticing the HUNDRED places where it was mentioned - THSES ARE NOT THE REAL NAMES!

Argh. Good to see this doesn't happen at Transfans. The home of intelligent fans. And Predabot...

back on topic - something hit me when a script review said there'll be a big battle with the 'Devastator' Abrams tank during the movie, and well Megatron appears only in the end, as an alien jet...

Now this made the little wheels spinning in my brain, and I came up with a hypthesis... (as always):

-What if Devasator is actually the codename of Megatron? Woulkd make more sense then introducing him in the end... and 'Megatron' is actually another Con, who's got all right to be in a cybertronian alt mode, seeing as how he never got redesigned in any continiuty - Shockwave! 8)

Of course, this is only correct if these scripts are even valid - which I highly doubt, although the fact that none of the directors/producers denied them makes me wonder.

EDIT:

Is this thing for real?

I mean, does the US use tanks like this, or this was made for the movie? Reall nice looking.

As an aside, I saw The Island last night, the last Michael Bay/Roberto Orci/Alex Kurtzman collaberation.

Not as bad as I feared, but not exactly good either.

Expect the new TF film to look like an Aerosmith music video. With explosions.

I haven't read the scripts (despite my habit of looking for spoilers) mainly nobody would be that idiotic to leak an entire script just like that.

I'm playing wait and see here.
