12-page Beast Wars comic preview

IDW offers a first look at the story for their forthcoming Beast War mini-series...

http://forums.idwpublishing.com/cgi-bin ... f=21;t=954

Tight script IMO, sets up a decent amount in a short space. :)

edit:

Don cover for #2...

Artwork is great, but.....

Could someone please decipher Furman's "Perceptorish" dialogue for me please.

Honestly, I'm completely lost. Granted, I'm sure my unfamiliarity with Beast Wars history has a lot to do with it, but that dialogue really confused the hell out of me.

Anyone mind giving me a crash course on what happens in Beast Wars and when this series takes place?

Interview if you need a recap:

http://comicnewsi.com/article.php?catid=208&itemid=7960
'The Gathering', as the series is sub-titled, occurs within season 3 of the TV show. The most direct references crop up in issue #3, which is laced into the events in an episode titled 'Changing of the Guard.' For reasons that will become apparent in the comic series, the TV cast remain (largely) unaware of the new arrivals on prehistoric Earth
Basically the bad guy with snakes coming out of him is travelling back in time to retrieve the protoform pods that went missing (i.e. were a loose end) after Beast Wars... he's doing this so that he can surreptitiously build an army. (For what purpose, readers wil presumably find out in the mini-series.)

I managed to follow it without having watched Beast Wars through, anyway...

i have found my self saying 'Beat Wars' in that silly voice and humming the theme tune upon viewing this - nb, i am in the office.

looks utterly brilliant. I fail to see the issue with Simon's stuff - it seems spot on to me, fast paced and tight, like a tiger.

And the art - brief glimpses of Cybertronian modes (and Cybertron itself from a plot perspective) - wonderful.

excited.

And it would appear every other TF comic fans shares your sentiments on other TF message boards. Obviously, the problem is me.

But maybe someone can clear up some things for me. What exactly happened in that Beast Wars episode "Changing of the Guard"? And does the original BW take place before of after G1?

Thanks.

Man! I have to agree with Besters I can just feel that mad electric guitarr from the theme-song letting loose! :)

It seems like it will be quite the ride this, Don really seems to be shining, altho at first the new style on Joshs colours really surprised me, not the way I'm used to seeing teh Don.

The cybertronian modes look gloriously sci-fi alien, with quite a little touch of Beast Machines acctually.

Also, what's cool is that the cover is inked by teh Don himself, and it shows.

in 'The changing of the gaurd' Rattrap attempts to secure the security system for the Maximal's submerged ship to fortify the Ark. After a bit of fighting between Rampage and Depthcharge and a bit of slapstick this actually ends up in the hands of the Predacons.

BW is set during G1. It happens after the Ark has crashed but before the 'bots and 'cons wake up - but all the central characters have travelled through time from a time after g1.

The Ark needs defending as Megatron (The BW incarnation, not the same char) is trying to kill the Autobots on board in an attempt to eradicate their ancestors (i.e the Maximals)

hope that's not too confusing.

Thanks. That is actually very helpful.

When you say "attempt to eradicate their ancestors" though, don't you mean "descendents" instead of "ancestors"? Because if the Maximals time travelled back to G1, I guess that means they were created later than the Autobots, right?

He's got it right, by killing the ancestors you automaticly kill the Maximals.

Right, but he's calling the Maximals the ancestors.

But I get what he's saying now.

Holy [composite word including 'f*ck'] that is good. I am well excited.

Also - hoping to see more Lio Convoy action!

As much as I'm loving the artwork and the story shown, I have to admit that I didn't get the BW shouty bit theme tune running through my head as a result

Of course, after reading this thread, I bloody well have now... ;)

Beautifull artwork, promising story!

Kudos for the character's picking - Lioconvoy as Razorbeast's boss is a good choice. Anyone spotted Big Convoy at the meeting, as well as Dead End (as a pre-BW flying saucer)?

I'm looking very forward to this, though I wonder just what Magmatron's plan really is -seems pretty straighforward just now, get new warriors, but Ravage certainly will stir the Ark business up again.

One minor nitpick - if they arrive on Earth at the time the Axalon crashed, how can they encounter Depth Charge?

Simple. They didn't arrive at the time the Axalon crashed. They arrived after Optimal Situation/Deep Metal.

The initial blurb and subsequent Cybertron flashbacks do indicate this.

I picture it as they begin to "slow down" at the point the axalon crashed, thus the flashes of stuff that happen, until they eventually stop at the time they wanted [which is within season 3 or whatever]

but thats just me
