New Marvel Furman comic

Post by KingMob » Wed Dec 14, 2005 10:34 am

This is very early information, but apparently Simon Furman will be writing a 4 issue series for a Marvel 'big event' next year, Annihilation. The comic in question is called Ronan the Accuser.

Some information on Ronan the Accuser:

He's the chap with the hammer right under the logo on the promo pic

Just randomly found this while surfing. Kinda neat.

Cool. Furmy deserves a shot at more non TF related stuff. This sounds right up his alley anyway, with its space opera leanings.

Good to see Abnett with a gig too.

I don't know who the hell pencilled that pic, but that is some of the most kickass artwork I have seen in comic history. Looks kind of like Alex Ross.

Anybody know who that is? Imagine a TF comic up to that kind of standard.

I'd wager it's by Ariel Olivetti wich it says will work with Giffen on the Annihilation: Prologue one-shot. He's got a painterly style. However, his characters ussually has a different bulk, much chunkier.

As it is now, it looks almost like that cover was made by Gabriel Dellotto, who's (still...) doing Secret War with Bendis.

hm. doesn't look to much like Olivetti to me - plus he usually signs his work.

happy to be wrong though.

loved his X-man stuff (before the fools at Marvel canned it).

Yeah, I noticed that. It's not quite his style. But I'd wager it is Gabriel Dellotto, have you mayhaps seen the Secret War covers? I'll smack up one of em' for comparison.

That would be the new smart Drax. Originally as you know, he was smart (and I think he was acctually slightly smaller then in the 90's), but then he got killed or something, and when they brought him back, he wasn't brought back the right way, and he turned into the lumbering idiot wich was featured in the infinity watch.

In the recent ongoing Drax Mini, also by Keith Giffen, he was killed again, and this time, he came back a bit more correct, as an intelligent individual. But he had lesser strength.

What, the fact that Drax got to be smart again, like he was originally intended to be? Or the fact that the bloody 90's turned him into a cretin dumber than the bleedin' Hulk..? :lurk:

The "died then came back, then died again then came back again" bit, probably, I'd say.

Coming back from the dead without full mental faculties when the events of your death included major head trauma does lean toward a more realistic approach?

Btw, does this new smart twice-dead Drax the Destroyer know anything about his history with Moondragon?

He knows more than his unintelligent version it would appear. The new Drax came out of a hardened shell, made up out of the old Drax's bio-matter. He sort of reset himself when he got killed. I think Drax is supposedly made to be not just nearly invulnerable, but also nearly immortal.

Cheers for all that info, that was the chap I didn't recognise either.

Pleased that Furman is writing another Marvel book, and it's really neat to see the cosmic characters come back. Busy year for Marvel, next year.

Oh, and I read that it is a Gabriel Dellotto (sp?) cover, it's also up as a wallpaper at marvel's site.

Umm, isn't Drax a robot? So it's logical that he can come back from the dead as often as Prime or Shockwave did...

No Drax isn't a robot. He was one in the short-lived Silver Surfer cartoon. (Well worth tracking down if you can find it) He was reanimated by Chronos the god of Titan from the very surface of titan itself iirc and given the personality of Arthur Douglas - the father of Moondragon.

I loved the Drax of the Infinity watch era and this new incarnation left me entirely cold.

I am curious to see what Furman will do with Ronan (last interesting appearance was in PAD's Captain Marvel Volume 3).

Thanks, I saw him only in that cartoon. A pity they axed it after season 1.
