But first, the traditional, Poorly Altered Professor Smooth Photo of the moment! (see below)
Near the end of October, I'd heard rumblings that IDW had been successful in their attempts at getting the father of The Transformers, Bob Budiansky, to write some new TF material. I have spent the last month trying to find anything to either confirm or deny that. As you've probably guessed, I've failed. The scraps that I have been able to dig up wouldn't even be worth tossing into the smelting pool. So what I'm left with is little to no real information. Guess there's no reason to trouble you any further with this one, eh?
WRONG! I spent years at Seibertron spreading all sorts of crap that had even LESS grounding in reality than this one. Jetfire being reissued, anybody? So, in true old-skool fashion, here's what may wind up happening based on speclation and little to no real information!
IDW's doing a series of "elseworlds" styled comics that involve no real continuity. Think All-Star Superman or Ultimate Marvel Team-Up. If Big Bad Bob is actually producing some new TF stuff, smart money would be that he'll do an issue (or six) of this.
Don't feel like betting on the smart pick? Just smart enough to know that The Smooth One's first choice is about as reliable as Starscream with an open shot? How about this? The whispered Transformers: 1984 mini-series (haven't heard about it? That's alright, the guy I heard about it from makes me look like Tim Formas by comparison) could be Budianski's mini-series retelling the original 1984 origin of the TFs. We all NEED another TF origin, don't we? Of course we do! This time, Grimlock's a bi-polar penguin!
I'll update this when/if any more "information" becomes available. This will likely come about shortly after (or during) another all-night-all-day bender.
Thanks for reading.
If you didn't get the reference in the pic, you're not buying Pat Lee's Spider-Man comics and should be commended. I'm not buying them, but I'm still readin' 'em. I'm worse off that you, I swear.
Transfans disclaimer: There was an all-night-all-day bender and we were not invited? You owe us!
Yes, masters.

My preorder will be placed as soon as it becomes possible. I'm more than willing to give Bob a shot and see what he can do when there aren't toy company gestapo asking him to cram in a dozen new characters a month and on the understanding that a lot of the people reading will be in their twenties or thirties.

Uh... why can't I ever edit a post in Prof Smooths rumour forum?? Now I'll be getting a multi-post warning...
You do realize who will no doubt end up in that pool if this doesn't come trough?Professor Smooth wrote:The scraps that I have been able to dig up wouldn't even be worth tossing into the smelting pool.
Awesomeness! Hopefully, or more accurate, better be 6 issues!Think All-Star Superman or Ultimate Marvel Team-Up. If Big Bad Bob is actually producing some new TF stuff, smart money would be that he'll do an issue (or six) of this.
Ok... This entire post is bogus, now innit? NOES! I must keep faith! Must keep faith..This time, Grimlock's a bi-polar penguin!

If Bob's coming back, and writing for adults rather than kids, that'd be great. The Prime's head arc was brilliant (well, with a couple of exceptions - The Next Best Thing To Being There was rubbish) and so was the Return to Cybertron "arc" (do 2 stories count as an arc?). If we get stories of that quality out of Bob it'll be brilliant.
If we get a Micromaster Wrestling, though, I'll be angry. And you wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

I was wondering about that myself. Duly noted for next time.Predabot wrote:So that's why Prof Smooths corner has been taking over the front-page for a few days!
It did seem odd that Smooth's rumour-text got most of the room there snagged. The rest of the space shuffled aside.
Careful... he's hoggin' in..

Any of the IDW crew could vouch for you, if Ryall managed to get in touch with you, say. Mr F is around occasionally as well.Trans Daddy wrote:I know who I am. How I can prove it to anyone is beyond me.
On the off-chance this is legit, I'll reiterate my interest in seeing contemporary TF fiction by your good self...

If Mr. Ryall hasn't managed to get in touch, he's really trying to.
From our recent interview with him:
12. Which other previous creative/artistic talents can we expect you to bring on board? Can you confirm or deny recent rumours of a Budiansky comeback?
I can confirm I've been trying like crazy to track down Bob, to no avail thus far. So I'll throw this out publicly—Bob, drop me a line to chris@idwpublishing.com. Love to talk to ya. Likewise, if anyone knows how I can reach Bob, I'd love to hear from you.

Go on, Bob. Press the link. You know you'll love it! To get into the midst of comics again.
Hey! I just realized something! Smooth, can't you suggest to Ryall, to maybe put a small profile we haven't seen yet, (I'm not sure there's many left? DW's MTMTE was pretty thorough) at the back of the books? It would be awesome if Mr Budiansky could write those. I think it was just cheer excellence when he got into a more scientific explanation of the TF's abilities in the old profiles.

This would go well with EJ's "Panda Megatron" design...Professor Smooth wrote:This time, Grimlock's a bi-polar penguin!
Mmm, seriously, what sort of stuff would people like to see? Personally I'd most like to be surprised, although a story focusing on a couple of new characters (with profiles in the back of the book, say) would be a particular treat.

A 'What If Prime and Megatron (and all others) truly died in the Ark crash" story would be nice. Cybertron with all the minor chars like Blaster, Bludgeon, SCorpy, Straxus, Impactor etc....
