Why the gas mask 'can' face? Surely a robot needs no breathing apparatus on his face. The fangs were what gave DH the mean streak. I hope the thing gets chopped down in a battle and we get the traditional mouth underneath.

Death's Head 3.0
Did anyone see that Doctor Who episode where people were mutating into gas mask-faced zombies? The new Death's Head kinda reminds me of that, and looks like it has a Terminator influence from the covers. I'm looking forward to it though.
FYI the comic is released this week and I'm getting 35 copies on Friday (30th Dec). Anyone wants one or a sub for the whole series go to this page - http://www.oneshallstand.com/shop/amfan16.html

Yeah, I did wonder if the redesign had drawn inspiration from there... can't remember when the ep aired and when the first redesign pics were seen, though...OneShallStand wrote:Did anyone see that Doctor Who episode where people were mutating into gas mask-faced zombies?

The airdates for that Doctor Who story were 21st and 28th May. I don't know about the redesign dates, though.Denyer wrote:Yeah, I did wonder if the redesign had drawn inspiration from there... can't remember when the ep aired and when the first redesign pics were seen, though...OneShallStand wrote:Did anyone see that Doctor Who episode where people were mutating into gas mask-faced zombies?

Arrived this morn.
I'm enjoying it so far... I'm more used to trade paperbacks these days, so any individual comic feels short. I also really like the idea of short backup strips in the back, which gives the book a 2000AD feel. Stopped me feeling shortchanged when I got to the end of the installment. Story itself went smoother on a second read; plenty of flashing between locations and backwards and forward in the timeframe, keeping a fair pace. The panelling (and art, a bit) remind me of Frank Quitely on The Authority.
Paper quality's not tops, but there aren't an insane number of adverts either, which has been the case in the few Marvel books I've read recently.
Thumbs up and I'll be sticking around for the rest.
If anyone wants a spoiler summary, just say.

They've been taking steps to deal with that recently, after everyone moaned at them.Denyer wrote:but there aren't an insane number of adverts either, which has been the case in the few Marvel books I've read recently.
I quite liked it, it was nice and dense to read and I expected techno-heavy text in an AIM story, so no worries there. Nicely paced and the end comes at just the right spot for a first installment. I'm in.
It was nice having Paladin in the back, as I was actually trying to find an old Captain America comic I have featuring him the other day, as he popped up in last month's Daredevil and reminded me of his existence. So a nice comic all round.

I picked it up and thought that it was solid if unspectacular. If it wasn't trading on the DH name I doubt I would be that bothered if I didn't get another issue. It was the best effort I have read by Furman in some time though, most of his recent work has left me pretty cold.
The art was pretty good, I just wish they'd managed to stick with one inker and Andrew Currie would have been my first choice he worked well with James Raiz on Tokyo Storm Rising.
I will stick around and see how this turns out. They did sneak in one nod to the earlier incarnations. On one monitor they have the name Minion appear.

i'd have to agree with that to be honest, so far i'm not seeing anything to suggest that creating a new character was a better decision than reviving the original.AndyTurnbull wrote:I picked it up and thought that it was solid if unspectacular. I think the majority of Marvel UK material will languish and be forgotten, much like the Ultraverse characters as Marvel don't seem to want to touch them with a barge poll. I don't think DH would have gotten a look in if it weren't for the exposure of Furman thanks to TF and the original DH appearances getting reprinted in the Titan trades.
Mind you the mess that Marvel Uk degenerated into near the end was pretty soul-destroying. I think you had a three way race between Wolverine, The Punisher and Death's Head II for most pointless guest appearances each month.
I don't think there has been a really good Death's head story since The Body In Question. Now a reprint of that wouldn't go amiss.

A lot of it was derivative and really poor but occasionally they managed to get something out there worth reading.
Digitek and the first few issues of Warheads in particular being high points. The DH II mini-series was decent enough but the regular series was pretty dire. The only thing going for it was that it had a strong art team for the most part.

That was UK stuff? Seem to recall it all being in small-format... and pretty crap, yes.Best First wrote:I always found the vast majority of Marvel Uk's 'new wave' of stuff, Killpower, GenetiX etc to be pretty poor to anyway to be honest.
I enjoyed the DHII arc dealing with his creation. Starts in #9 of the ongoing, brings things very neatly full circle.

Read it yesterday, well, not much impressed, though I hardly know the other characters (never read much Marvel stuff). I recall AIM is some secret terrorist organisation, who try to look innocent?
DH will be interesting, though. Yesss. It seems he's one of the Reaver's droids, whatever those are.

Digitech was cool. Very different, and the fully painted art was fantastic.AndyTurnbull wrote:Digitek and the first few issues of Warheads in particular being high points. The DH II mini-series was decent enough but the regular series was pretty dire.
I think the DHII series had potential to really go somewhere with purpose (DH seeking 'who he really was' and stuff). And the set up for Gold was great - shame it never went past issue 1. And I think i read that liam Sharp can't even remeber the direction for the script after issue one, so ther is no chance of an unoffical ending.
And Dark Guard had potential, by pulling the best characters from the Marvel UK universe into one team.

I've been so busy lately, so I haven't been able to make a trip to the comic shop to get the new DH comic yet. I'm chewing my fists off reading all your comments

Umm... living in a country where the only comics published currently are Star Wars, Ultimate X-Men, Wolverine and the new Spiderman (yeah, that's all) I get my comics off the web. I could order them and pay about twice the price you americans pay for them, but I do it only with TPB's.Scraplet wrote:BB Shockwave wrote:Read it yesterday, well, not much impressed,

The a-z has all 3 models of Death's Head on the front, and is in general a completely pimp cover.
DH gets 3 pages and the pics used are a couple of Senior's green DH and then the blue DH, and a Hitch DHII.
The entry on the original does not use the word 'Transformers' but does namecheck Rodimus Prime, Cyclonus, Scourge, Galvatron and Unicron.
DH III has no pic and is only barely mentioned in pasing at the end of the entry on the original.
Worth your while browsing at in the shop if you aren't getting this series anyway.
