I get this question sent to my inbox fairly often. It's usually sent by someone who thinks that I have some idea what I'm talking about. Rather than look through a bunch of emails (most of which have probably been deleted already (**** you, Hotmail), I'll just combine them into a single sentence:
Smooth, will there ever be a Primus figure?
Now, up until 2001, my answer would have been, "Kid, Hasbro's never even produced a Unicron figure, and Unicron is one of the most important characters in all of the TFU." After Hasbro released the Armada (and Energon) Unicrons (in the same year, btw) my answer closely mirrored the opinions of those of my good friend, Ryan (the guy who owns/operates/slaves over seibertron.com): The whole point of Primus is that, instead of giving himself the ability to transform, he created an entire race of transforming robots. That's the whole point of the character.
That was then...
...this is now.
...actually, what you just read was "then." Hmmm. Well, anyway, here's the thing. When Dreamwave had their shot with Transformers and Simon Furman got a call to write The Ultimate Guide, all of continuity was retconned so that Primus does have the ability to transform into a big freakin' robot like Unicron.
However...none of that makes any difference. I just felt like flappin' my fingers for a few moments.
On to the real rumor:
IS THIS AUCTION LEGIT?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5986352118
Sleazy, ain't it? Someone's selling pictures of a figure we don't know will actually exist. Well, I can't speak to the legitimacy of the auction, but I can put this rumor to bed. This is one of those times (those great, few and far between, times that I actually know the answer to one of these crazy rumors. What's the answer, you may ask.
YES. Hasbro IS releasing a Primus figure.
Now we delve into what I've heard from guys who know guys. The pictures this guy is selling are not of a prototype either, but of a fully painted (and unless something changes) finished figure. The fig will be on display (unveiled, if you will) at the San Diego Comic Con next week.
The figure looks friggin' amazing, btw. I highly doubt many of you will complain about this one.
You'll see pics in about 5 days. You won't be disappointed.
Thanks for reading,

Transfans disclaimer: Smooth, we swear to (insert space monkey of choice here) you'd better not even think about it...

Uhh?? How'd you get a look at it?? I suppose since your hobby is rumours you've got...contacts. Either way it sounds smashin'.
I wonder what colour-scheme it will be? Will it be classic scourged earth-grey wich is the war-time colour most of us is used to, or will it be Golden Age? Maybe more like Silver Age?

Please continue to refrain from posting any of the pictures of this figure/character until next Monday. Hasbro went to an incredible amount of trouble to keep this from leaking out early.

I am aware of the big troubles, its just like Armada Unicron back then, no-one was allowed to see the pictures before Toyfair magazine printed them (and yet, the pics were available)
but if they stop 1 testshot/production model, then why not all? :/
HasTak has been too easy on that matter, that such 'bigger' news don't surprise anymore

Law of diminishing returns. Though designers may not be chuffed to see the next wave of basic unpainted on eBay, a marketing department isn't averse to the hype. It takes effort to keep wraps on anything.Cyclone_X wrote: if they stop 1 testshot/production model, then why not all? :/
The legal situation probably differs between fan-taken photos and leaked official materials, too.

Everytime I think you're finally talking sense, you say something that totally belies how long you've been part of this fandom.Professor Smooth wrote:I highly doubt many of you will complain about this one.

The lesson you should take away from this is that I never make sense.Brendocon wrote:Everytime I think you're finally talking sense, you say something that totally belies how long you've been part of this fandom.Professor Smooth wrote:I highly doubt many of you will complain about this one.

I dunno. I'm probably the last person on the 'net who can criticize someone for paying for a digital picture of a toy.Autobloke wrote:So, it's not like a repainted Unicron with a different head and a few changes to the mold? As I would expect...
And what's the point to the auction if the pics are going to be avilable in a few days time? Money down the drain, if you ask me.

you want Primus pictures?
I'll give you one!
but you are only allowed to watch if you're over 16, 18 or 21 (depending on which country you live in)
Belgian Beer, simply the best

I, for one, would love to have a giant transforming toy of Primus/Cybertron... ...that is... ...I would were I not so shitfit about that damned image of a "Transformed Primus" to begin with.
Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.
The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.
