DA FUQUE, GUYS?
Civil War! Ragnarok! Danvers Marvel! Avengers 3.1 & 3.2! INFINITY STUFF! And... Black Panther and Doctor Strange and Inhumans for some reason.
CIVIL WAR! RAGNAROK!
Where is the passion?

Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

Re: How do you know when Transfans is super old and boring?
It's interesting. I'm really not a Marvel comics guy, but their movies are absolutely beyond brilliant.
My real only concern is how long the actors will stick with the movies. Robert Downey Jr. seems to be heavily implying that his run is almost at an end. Now I'm sure the other actors like Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt (Hmm, Marvel likes Chris...) won't turn down what I am assuming is an awfully nice paycheck, but, eventually they may move on.
I know change is inevitable, but given the continuity of Marvel's movies, it would be like replacing Mark Hamill with someone else halfway through Empire. It'll be jarring, and they can't handwave it away like Doctor Who can.
Chris Evans in particular I think has really nailed both Captain America and Steve Rogers and I do not envy trying to recast him. (Though maybe they don't, and instead give Cap America to Bucky or Falcon)
That being said, I'm really looking forward to Avengers (natch), Civil War, and of course, GOTG 2.
Meanwhile I'm trying not to raise my hopes over Batman v. Superman. You know, it's interesting, in my personal opinion, DC does best when their heroes don't interact with each other, whereas Marvel is the exact opposite. I think part of it is that Marvel's heroes often generate conflict amongst themselves, whereas, with a few exceptions, DC's heroes tend to get along.
(Except for Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent of course. You could write volumes on how their similar loss drove them to view the world in wildly different ways. In 40k terms Batman is a Night Lord while Superman is an Ultramarine.)
In any case, it's pretty darn clear DC is trying to copy the success and formula of the Avengers, but it just has train wreck written all over it. Marvel spent years building a film continuity and DC wants to skip all that and go straight for the financial jugular.

Recasting might be a ways out yet, but it's probably inevitable.
Thor you can re-cast. No problem. Just have a different person be "worthy" to hold the hammer.
Cap can have Bucky or Falcon take over for Steve Rogers.
Hulk...hasn't proved to be a problem so far.
Stark. Hmm. Teen Tony?
Then again, I guess you could just pull a Flashpoint with Marvels: The Avengers: The Infinity War: Part II and just have the Gems re-write the universe and leave us with a whole new cast when the dust has settled. Perhaps a universe where Spider-Man, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four all exist together...?

Maybe that's the plan. Keep the momentum ticking over until they've reclaimed the relevant franchises, then boom! Something along the lines of Contest of Champions or Secret Wars.Professor Smooth wrote:Then again, I guess you could just pull a Flashpoint with Marvels: The Avengers: The Infinity War: Part II and just have the Gems re-write the universe and leave us with a whole new cast when the dust has settled. I already sprayed my geek all over facebook Spence.
Seriously though - this is a golden age isn't it. What is notable in the survey's is that the movie people seem to be looking forwrad too most is Cap 3. Possibly cos they don't know which Avengers film to vote for.
Wonder when they will announce the casting of Danvers - that is a movie with a bit of weight on it's shoulders.

Winter Soldier was really up there as a Marvel movie. Rather pumped to see what that team does with the Civil War story.

Re: Civil War
At a guess, after the devastation in AoU, the government wants to be able draft anyone with the skills and/or super powers to be useful into SHIELD. Ironman supports this, while is opposed...which will come as a surprise as you'd expect the opposite of both.

Love Winter Solider - rewatwched on DVD about 6 times already - it really stands up to repeat watching.bumblemusprime wrote: Winter Soldier was really up there as a Marvel movie. Rather pumped to see what that team does with the Civil War story.

Robert Redford as a supremely reasonable Hydra villain was a masterstroke. No over the top cheese. No villainous cackling. Just straight up "Peace through Tyranny" with a smile on his face. Not to mention that guy can really wear a suit.Best First wrote:Love Winter Solider - rewatwched on DVD about 6 times already - it really stands up to repeat watching.bumblemusprime wrote: Winter Soldier was really up there as a Marvel movie. I also think it's helpful that Captain America is a refreshingly non-cynical, idealistic guy who will always do the right thing, which is in contrast to a lot of "shades of grey" storytelling from all sorts of media for the past decade or so. (Nothing wrong with shades of grey, but it is nice to see a story call out the pitfalls of "necessary evils.")

Oh, Chris Evans' Cap is incredible. I really see new things in his performance every time. There's a great sense of world-weariness, of that unassuming soldier's attitude and a real nice mix between his inner conflict over where the world's at and what he fought for in World War II.

Yep - they just got it so right - don't try and bend an unbendable character to make him interesting, bend the world around him and see how he reacts. He becomes interesting by virtue of his straightlacedness (which is totes a word).
