Don't think they made the most of the soundtrack.
Oh hell yes they did.
Looks great.

Looks great. Still bitter though about the abrupt cancellation of TCW. But this helps.
Bumblebeemus, did you get through all the CW seasons?

Re: Hey YaYa Hey
And just saw the trailer BeeFster posted. Yes, this helps a lot. Animation much better than anticipated.
And if Luminara Undali is mentioned, it's only a matter of time before other CW charàcters show up.

Still working on it. Some of the eps are too violent for my kids, so I've taken to previewing them, which means I have to wait until the kids aren't around to watch. Usually I do two or three hours in a row while they're doing churchy things Sunday. Which is its own kind of religion, I guess.Yaya wrote:Looks great. Spoilers!
Actually, that's a fairly Gnostic view, isn't it? The Old Testament God is the evil Demiurge, or Sith Lord.

Re: Hey YaYa Hey
So what I've learned is everything in the expanded universe (Dark Horse comics, all those many novels, etc) has been cast away as officially NOT canon. All that has been kept as official SW canon are the six movies and The Clones Wars animated series (phew). Wow. A lot of pissed SW fans out there I'm sure. Talk about a heavy investment

Eh to be honest the EU had a lot of really substandard stuff.
Aside from the Thrawn trilogy and the TIE Fighter computer game i am really hard pressed to think of anything else worth saving.

I know it's hotly contested, but I truly enjoyed the novel where Leia was pushed into an arranged marriage and Han whisked her away to a planet full of Rancor-riding Force witches. Also, the Knights of the Old Republic series was great. Zayne Carrick is da boss.

Re: Hey YaYa Hey
I thought it was always pretty clear that the Expanded Universe existed in but of a grey area? Anyone who gets pissed off that some Admiral Thrawn limited series doesn't get enshrined in movie canon needs to have a word with themselves to my mind.

Re: Hey YaYa Hey
It's like any fandom. The EU has its All Hail Megatron equivalents that we would rather forget (the collected work of Kevin J. Anderson), and its Remain In Light (Zahn's work) that should be used to physically beat some sense into George Lucas.

Re: Hey YaYa Hey
I agree with you, most of the EU stuff was lame and I think it does SW a favor by sweeping it away.
Having said that, there were bright spots, and I'm kind of upset that The Knights of the Old Republic and The Dark Times comics are no longer canon. Loved Zaybe Carrick and Dass Jenner. Thrawn was a cool character but wasn't too impressed overall by the story. I think the number one complaint from SW fans about this involved losing Thrawn and Mara Jade. Chewy I guess never died.

Re: Hey YaYa Hey
Losing Thrawn and Jade is jarring because they are two of the only EU characters that actually had originality, presence, depth and lasting impact. The rest of the EU is full of throwaway villains and Mary Sues. Even Corran Horn, another EU favorite, is pretty much just Wedge Antilles as a Jedi.Yaya wrote:I agree with you, most of the EU stuff was lame and I think it does SW a favor by sweeping it away.

And the less said about the Yuuzhan Vong debacle, the better. If your storyline is so deficient that you need to kill off main characters just to give the reader a reason to read it, chances are your story has failed.
I will miss KOTOR though. Bioware has always been good at making memorable characters. Oh HK-47. One day you'll hit your pre-set kill limit.

Re: Hey YaYa Hey
with stuff set as far back as KOTOR though - is it really here or there?
If you have no idea what it is, than doesn't really matter to the new stuff.
But even if you do i would not really expect many Darth Malik references in the new films anyway so if KOTOR s part of the back story for you, some extra richness to the tapestry then all good.
Just so i am clear - Episodes 1-3 are part of the expanded uinverse right?
right?

Re: Hey YaYa Hey
True. It doesn't really affect anything since SW history is more or less "A lot of time has passed, and a lot of stuff went down that's mostly forgotten anyways." Basically taking the 40k viewpoint that aside from the major, absolutely essential events, the rest of it is an open sandbox.Best First wrote:with stuff set as far back as KOTOR though - is it really here or there?
I also have to imagine that Disney won't retcon Bioware's Old Republic MMO given that its still making them a decent amount of cash. Be odd to ask people to pay for something on an ongoing basis that is not going to be canon.

Please throw in that couple of Ewoks live-action movies, while you're at it!Best First wrote:Just so i am clear - Episodes 1-3 are part of the expanded uinverse right?
Although, I could imagine Disney execs wanting to restore canonicity to the Holiday Special, just to rub Lucas' face in it.
Re: Hey YaYa Hey
The Holiday Special must be canon. It must!
After all, it did give us Boba Fett.
Hmmm. It gave us Lumpy too. I'm torn.

Re: Hey YaYa Hey
Have said this before but my ideal opening scene to episode 7 is Han Solo watching the Phantom Menace and saying "These documentaries about the rise of the empire are sh*t" before turning the TV off in disgust.
