Spider-Man lists for the List Guy

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Spider-Man lists for the List Guy

Post by bumblemusprime » Fri May 30, 2014 5:12 am

I know I'm Mister List lately, but I'm trying to celebrate the end of Superior by listing the best and worst post-2000 Spidey stories, and truth is, I ain't read em all. So here's what I have, potentially. Help is appreciated:

Best:

Straczynski's Doc Ock story
The ish where May finds out in Straczynski's run
Jenkins' Venom story
Millar's big 12-issue run (aka Shush)
Superior, of course (prob the best)
I rather liked whatsit... the end of the whole Menace run. The Election?
Aguirre-Sacasa's side of Civil War
First 25 issues or so of Ultimate Spidey

Worst:

Amazing during Civil War
One More Day, One More Day
One Moment In Time
New Ways To Die -- Anti-Venom, come on, seriously, the [composite word including 'f*ck'], I ******* hated that story
Brand New Day
Anything that had to do with Spidey in the Avengers. Okay, I hate him in the Avengers. Sue me.

Or do one big poo in the morning and another one in the afternoon. I bet they weren't even excited by and then subsequently disappointed by Star Wars Prequels. Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

"Shed" (The Lizard component of The Gauntlet) was good. And there was some cracking stuff post-Big Time in the run-up to Superior.

Have you read the new "OGN" yet? Family Business by Mark Waid and James Robinson? Painted by Gabriele Dell'Otto. Standalone and possibly a bit glitchy with continuity, but fresh and fun.

I enjoyed most of the JMS stuff, altho the whole Spider-totem thing became a bit hokey. Doctor Doom going through a metal detector being a particular highlight.

Superior was what it claimed to be.

Remender's Venom run was a riot (apart from the hellish cross over)

The vast majority of ultimate spidey

And the emergence of Miles Morales (altho i don't really want to see him in the 616)

Oh, and Spider-men - that was a joy.

One More Day put me off the main titles for years though - Superrior bought me back. We will see if Amazing keeps me.

Yeah, I like all of JMS run, especially the arc where he comes out to Aunt May.

I'm pretty sure this was post 2000: Slott's Spider-Man and Human Torch mini-series. Kind of gets lost now that it's not "Wow, I WISH Slott would get to write ASM" and instead it's "Oh, more Spider-Man written by Slot. Huh." But it was quite good.

What about that series (I think it was Sensational Spider-Man) that dealt mostly with the actual fallout of all the major changes before, during, and after Civil War. Spidey dealing with Jonah/Robby, etc. Peter having to actually deal with being "out". That book was home to some of my favorite Spider-Man stories EVER...and people look at me like I've grown a third head when I mention it.
