Yeah, especially since Obama and American Islamic groups both felt the need to reiterate that America is not at war with Islam over and over and ooooover.Best First wrote:If it is respecting tradition, seems a smart thing to do to me to be honest.Yaya wrote:I still think the "deep sea burial thing" just doesn't make sense.
For one, it's not "in line with Islamic tradition", only for those who die at sea apparently. And two, why even respect the religious traditions of someone you've hated and chased for ten years? Why even give him that?
Doesn't add up.
Shows that the war is with him not his alledged faith.

I believe, and I could be wrong, that it was the fact that they buried him so quickly that was keeping with Islamic tradition.Yaya wrote:I still think the "deep sea burial thing" just doesn't make sense.

As for the deep sea burial bit that was just the 'not making a shrine for terrorists' thinking - which makes perfect sense to me.

Oh sure, the war is with Bin Laden and not islams generally. That's why the Shermans have continued bombing the crap out of Iraq and Afghanistan, despite their intelligence services apparently knowing that OBL has been in Pakistan for the past two years. If they stopped indiscriminately killing the other islams, Osama might have twigged that they were onto him.bumblemusprime wrote:Yeah, especially since Obama and American Islamic groups both felt the need to reiterate that America is not at war with Islam over and over and ooooover.Best First wrote:Shows that the war is with him not his alledged faith.

Because we're supposed to be better than he is. What would be acceptable for you? Then giving the body a 50 State tour and charging people to hit it with sticks?Yaya wrote: For one, it's not "in line with Islamic tradition", only for those who die at sea apparently. And again, sea or cremation were the only real options. Which was more in acceptable to his faith?
Honestly, conspiracy mad idiots are never going to believe it anyway, same as they will seriously think the whole of 9/11 was faked despite that clearly be barking.

You kinow, you're right! And now we've worked it out they'll be coming for us! Expect seals at the door any second. No, not SEALS, the animal. With lasers tied to their head. Run!Best First wrote:Well, it kinda makes sense doesn't it?
The US government blew up the towers, which is why they have deliberatley not killed this guy in revenge. Cos he didn't do it.
My favourite silly 9/11 conspiracy is a website I came across a year or so ago that seriously claimed there were no planes. All the camcorder and news footage had them stuck in after with CGI. Which is stupid on so many levels as it would be just as easy to fly actual planes into the towers as to blow them up with explosives and then fake it afterwards whilst depending on no one going "I didn't see no planes", or even happening to film what really happened.

My only thoughts on this already-old-in-our-24-hour-news-cycle-world news is:
While OBL was relatively insignificant in the running of Al-Qaeda at this point, this is as good a time as any to put a bow on Afg/Pak and say we're done. This has been Obama's point all along: Let's try and get OBL and get out of this whole "gobs of money to international corporations and the military industrial complex under the guise of 'nation building'" thing. But Obama is but a man and the government, the government my friends is a structure, so we'll see how that goes.
While I certainly understand the sense of triumph in America, it's stupid. Even putting aside the issue of celebrating the loss of human life, it's like "Haven't we been running around for 10 years spending our gold and blood overseas at the expense of our own country? Haven't we introduced a security state that infringes upon the Bill of Rights? Didn't this guy get to live in a mansion for 10 years while our Marines were stuck rooting around in caves in the wrong country?" I don't think killing OBL makes us the "winners" in all this. I mean, we've basically said "[composite word including 'f*ck'] absolutely EVERYTHING you need to be a prosperous nation (decreasing or steady inequality, basic services such as medical care or education, a well-regulated economy, putting long term environmental concerns over a quick buck) but we'll double down on having a ginormous military. In fact, make that triple down." So it's like, yes, I would hope considering that we've let Rome burn while we were at the gun shop that we could kill a motherf***er. That's like the ONLY thing we've invested in for 10 years.

remove the words "before God" and the stipulation of being a Xtian and i'm pretty down with this.the Pope's spokesman, Federico Lombardi wrote:Osama bin Laden, as we all know, bore the most serious responsibility for spreading divisions and hatred among populations, causing the deaths of innumerable people, and manipulating religions to this end. In the face of a man's death, a Christian never rejoices, but reflects on the serious responsibilities of each person before God and before men, and hopes and works so that every event may be the occasion for the further growth of peace and not of hatred."
I think we're all overlooking the most important event of the weekend. In amonst Boro twatting Cardiff, the Future King marrying a commoner with a hot sister, the Yanks finally getting round to checking Bin Laden's house and the last Pope being a step away from sainthood, I AM NOW THIRTY.
I'm gonna have to drop back to a deep-lying midfield role from now on.

Is there anyone who doesn't love Basil? I bet if Bin Ladden and the SEAL team had just sat down to watch an episode of his hi jinks they'd have been united in childlike joy and no one would have been shot.
EDIT: Oh, and my favourite silliness at the moment is people on Gallifrey Base claiming that the celebratory attitude in America isn't "What the Doctor would do". In a week where he tricked a bunch of aliens into getting bruttally beaten to death by people whilst making wisecracks as his girlfriend shot a load of them in the head.
