So last fall I interviewed for a job I really want, going full-time at the place where I currently adjunct. Dude was very nice and said "I can't hire you because you haven't taught for us long enough, but I'll be in touch with you next year."
I though "Suuuuuure. Heard that one."
He called today and it was like... well, I'm actually afraid to say this to anyone because it seems too good. He just said "I'm just going to send your resume up. We've already had the interview and you're still at the top of the list." At that point I started babbling. "Great... great, great to talk to you, yeah, okay, great, yeah, uh-uh, me love you long time..."
Of course, if he looks at my performance record he will see that I had a few late grades and missed meetings since. The wife has been going through some nasty bouts of what I thought was postpartum and am now convinced is something much bigger. Plus, because adjunct teaching is a bitch and a half, I went and got three other jobs to make sure the bills stay paid.
So... part of me is pretty cheerful. Part of me is nervous as hell and convinced that someone is going to say "What are you doing? This guy ****s up all over the place."
Currently looking at what was going to be a productive night's sleep. No more!

Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

You can't take the Atlantic out. We lose all subtlety as a couple.
It's 10 o clock. WHY HASN'T ANYONE CALLED ME YET.

Sent an email off this morning just to "check in and see when I might hear from you." Tried to make it as polite and quick as possible. Not going to send any more lest I become obnoxious. GAH.

It'll be a week since the first call tomorrow, which is usually not good. I'm going to call tomorrow since this guy is famous for not answering emails. After a week, I suspect that the answer might just be "No," but it'll nice to hear something at last.Karl wrote:hug
Don't be afraid to ask them for details: it lets them know you're interested and you're almost certainly never as pushy as you think you're being.

Thanks, guys. Since I haven't inked the HR contract yet (today or tomorrow, he said), I have now told my parents, my wife, my sister, and Transfans.
