I bought a 3DS a week or so ago. I wasn't going to, since there aren't any games I care about scheduled until around June, but I happened to be in a store that had a bunch in stock on launch day. So, I figured, what the hell. Got the Cosmo Black console and Street Fighter IV.
The 3-D screen is beautiful. Much nicer than the DS Lite's (obviously). The buttons have a little "click" them, which I enjoy. The DS Lite's buttons were kind of, I don't know, mushy?
The thing weighs a little bit more than the Lite, but it's not heavy.
The 3-D effect is striking. Your eyes adjust to it almost immediately. You can choose how vivid the effect is with a slider. You're going to want to use it, too. Because after a little while at full power, the 3-D effect takes its toll on your eyes.
The included camera is a nice little gimmick. Not great quality, but you can take 3-D pictures of stuff. When I show the thing off to people, that's what I'm going to be using.
Final thoughts: The thing has potential. LOADS of potential. There is just so much that can be done with it. But now, with a grand total of a dozen games available, there's nothing that really showcases it.
Interesting note: This is the second time I've bought a DS console on launch day. I complete forgot until just recently, but I was in line at midnight when the original DS launched in 2005. That wasn't for me, though. It was for somebody on this board.
Ah, the good ol' days. Back when I had nothing better to do than stand in line at midnight to buy a video game to mail off to some dude in England who I'd never met.

And I am eternally grateful although that DS has since gone to the great consolemaker in the sky...Professor Smooth wrote:I bought a 3DS a week or so ago. I really cannot wait for the 3DS. I played on one a few weeks ago and the effect was stunning, but more importantly everything still looked great with the 3D off.
I'll be picking up Pilotwings and Super Streetfighter on launch. Cannot wait for Zelda and Starfox. I don't care that they are remakes, as they are remakes of 2 of my favourite games ever.

I'm eternally greatful that the screen looks great even with the 3-D off, because WOW it's hard on the eyes.Hound wrote:

I was thrilled to hear that Zelda's a remake and not just a straight port. The few pics that are included in the newest Famitsu make it look incredible. Also: NEW DUNGEONS!
I'd seriously be cool w/ some 3-D remakes of NES games, though. Give me Super Mario and Legend of Zelda and I'll be happy as a clam.

Let me make a quick suggestion: Wait until there's a game you really want to play. Unless you want to use the 3-D camera and Face Shooting thing to show off to your mates. In which case, splurge!Best First wrote:This topic is making me want to spend money...

Don't really go for these handhelds, but this caught my eye.
