So how about this year? What are you looking forward to?

For me, it's slim pickings.

The Power of the Dark Crystal
Rango
Battle Los Angeles
Pirates of the Carribean 4
Kung Fu Panda 2
Cowboys and Aliens
Real Steel
Sherlock Holmes 2
Tintin
Alien Prequel

Other than The Power of the Dark Crystal (if it does get released) and Rango, don't really have a burning desire to any of these films. Cowboys and Aliens will be fun.

Think the sleeper hit of this year, for sci-fi fans, will be Battle Los Angeles. Probably this years District 9.

Billy and the Chocosaurus?

And if it doesn't exist, we should make it.

Apparently Aliens prequel is now set for March of 2012. Also, it might not be an Aliens prequel so much as a spin-off exploring the Aliens universe:

To be honest, I guess I'm just tired of superhero movies altogether.

Thor looks lame, Captain America will be hard to take seriously because, well, how do you make a guy with small white wings over his ears look cool. The Avengers might be good, but no Ed Norton.

Can't find anything to get me as excited as I was for Inception, Tron:Legacy, or Toy Story 3 last year.

Thor is directed by Kenneth Branagh.

Avengers is directed by Joss Whedon.

Other than Sam Raimi and Christopher Nolan, no other superhero movie has had talent of this caliber in the hot seat. That's right.

Cap... well, Joe Johnston directed the Rocketeer, and that is one hell of a fun movie. I just hope Cap is like it.

Just saw Tangled. That was waaaaay better than it had any right to be. The best of the Disney movies--I'm talking Aladdin good--combined with the best of the Pixar movies.

The only problem I had with Tangled was that it was not what I expected due to half of first trailer not being in the movie. Once I got past that, quite awesome.

Oh, and while not the movie fault, I should just stop watching anything that's originally in English dubbed in Polish, even the animated movies. You just don't replace Mandy Moore in what's basically a musical with whoever just got a "hit" TV series and can barely sing.

Alien Prequel is no longer an Alien prequel, apparently.

http://www.nme.com/movies/news/ridley-s ... eth/202901

Apparently I now use the NME for movie news. Blame Twitter.

This year? Scanning Wikipedia's list of films for the year...

Green Hornet
Thor
Captain America
X-Men
Source Code
TF3
Scream 4
Pirates 4
Super 8
Green Lantern
Cars 2
Harry Potter 7b
Johnny English 2
Piranha 3DD
The Thing remake
Holmes 2

Hoping James Gunn's Super turns up here some point this year, too.

Captain America's costume revealed:

In answer to my criticism above, they got rid of the small wings. Looks pretty decent, actually.

Actually, it looks pretty good, for working uniform.

Near-standard webbing (not Spider-man related, nor parachute straps) seems to have lots of spaces for extra pouches, not just the ones on his belt.

Seems to ring true, for me, of what a WWII super-commando would wear, which is what he is, basically. Colour scheme obviously isn't, but he wouldn't be Cap if his costume was greens.

Not sure about the holster, though. Unless this Cap doesn't have a "no guns" policy. Or not yet.

I'm not anticipating much beyond maybe Thor, the new Pirates, Last Harry Potter (the first part was ******* awesome. Wasn't going to see it, did anyway and didn't regret it.)... dunno. I haven't really been keeping track of stuff.

Non superhero wise, it's basically just Super 8 and Tintin for me.

I might be wrong, but I don't think he had that policy during WW2.

Wikipedia says:

Yeah. I was flicking through a few old issues last night. In one, he says "I've handled a firearm a few times, but never willingly taken a life." In another, someone offers him their pistol, to which he replies "No thanks, I've never had a use for them."

I thought X-Men: First Class looked quite good m'self!

Then again it won't have been the first time I've been conned into believing the hype of a bad film by a good trailer...

The music in the First Class trailer is sweet. Something like out of Snatch. Hope the movie is as good as the trailer.

Saw Source Code yesterday, it's a good fun, if not nearly as cleaver as people are saying, film. Only Felix-off-Bond's trying too hard at the eccentric character actor thing didn't really work ("I have a cane! And a comedy beard! And like to shout and wave my hands about!").

What really made the film though is when it directly acknowledged it's roots with a rather wonderful little cameo via phonecall near the end (that even had the actor in question throw out the catchphrase he's best known for in a unshowey way). I suspect it'll make many people here smile as it did me when I realised.

Really need to make the time to see Thor whilst it's still at cinemas, but Kiddy is only showing it in 3D and I'll be buggered if I'm paying extra for something I can't see.

Hate to be that kind of slobbering fanboy who hates everything*, but Green Lantern just looks awful to me. And that's a shame because I've really enjoyed GL comics over the years. It looks weak to me. So do Thor and Cap, honestly, but people seem to be saying good things about Thor, so I will be happy to be proven wrong, there.

*Well, I don't hate it, honestly
For now, it seems like IDW wants my money.

Saw Super 8. Really enjoyed it. Very...eighties. Full of plot flaws, but something about it was special and nostalgic.

Saw Kung Fu Panda 2. Loved this! Hilarious and the 3-D was probably the best I've seen, save perhaps How To Train Your Dragon.

Going to see X-Men this week. Looking forward to it.

ASM Trailer

Post by Shanti418 » Wed Jul 20, 2011 6:48 pm

First Spidey trailer is up:

http://blog.newsarama.com/2011/07/20/am ... nent-form/

Not 2011, but bite me.

I think it looks pretty sweet. I was going to say f***ing awesome, but I was meh on the FPS part.
