If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Right, so Transfans special offer: Any non UK Transfans dudes who make it over, given the level of expense involved, i will cover off their AA ticket (up to say, 5 people, just in case)
Cos leaving Sades outside while i go in and spend a gazillion pounds on toys i don't need seems like the wrong call.

Bloody hell, you are awesome. Like the... best... first or something.
I may have to move abroad to take advantage of this offer though. Bloody technicalities.

Wow: you'll spring for everything beyond the plane ticket? Struth!
I'll throw a little cash into that hat, if it'd help.

Like I said above, I can accommodate people either in London or near Birmingham, which should lift some of the cost of the trip. OPR - never fear, I'll also supply beers and introduce you to the wonders of Banks's Mild.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Just asking in case, you are probably being sarcastic.

I was pretty shocked to find flights for around 350 bucks. If the prices are still relatively cheap come tax time, I would say that OPR will be making his first trip to Europe in 25 years.
Might even try to finally meet my cousins for the first time. Haven't been to the UK since I was 6.
Also, AA is right around my birthday. Unfortunately to get the best price, I have to fly back on the 16th. But I guess I can get toasted at 35k feet while I turn 33.

No, I misunderstood AA as American Airlines and thought you were being mind-bogglingly generous!
that made me want to help out!
Sorry for the confusion

It's probably a stupidly obvious thing to say but a lot of cheaper flights have hidden costs not included in the up front charge, so always be careful to check them out fully.

About eight hundred round trip here--but I assume the 350 was only one-way for you. Iceland Air is cool.

I'll add on to that and say that I'm fully suspecting that the prices will go up for summertime flights.

I doubt your sponsor would look favourably upon that.

But on the plus side, one of these cheap-o airlines that claim to fly you to London may well actually land you in Birmingham anyway...

If anyone finds awesome ticket prices, say in April-May or so, fire me the website link so I can check if they "do" Canada.

You have to remember that I live 1.5 hours from Houston. Convenient international airport allows for cheap flights directly to London. Also lookin at flights 8 months in advance doesnt hurt either.

Wait... you mean for comparison, right?
Because airlines posting their actual flight schedules 8 months in advance seems silly, but could be fantastically useful in this case.

8 months might seem a little excessive, but I think it's a standard practice with travel companies (air, rail, sea, road, etc.) to offer cheaper travel months in advance, when demand is lower, and up the prices closer to the time, when demand becomes greater. It's when they've still got lots of spaces at the eleventh hour the price will drop below the actual cost of a ticket. Basic Supply & Demand strategy.
Buy 8 months in advance, it'll probably cost you the actual cost of a ticket. Buy 2 months in advance, could be 5 times the actual cost. Buy 10 mins before departure, could be 1/10th the actual cost. Buy 10 mins after departure... oh, wait.

That's kinda fantastic for me... the uber-planner-attempter-when-it-comes-to-big-things.
I'm now so totally tempted to try and wait until the last minute.

I'm honoured! Seriously thinking about AA next year, especially if this lot are going too and maybe Transformation too as it's London based.

May be the wrong legion.
Which is what the Roman general said to the angry unpaid prostitutes.
