Oh, and who didn't think of The Simpsons episode where Krusty Burger release a new burger made from a mystery animal that goes extinct... due to Krusty Burger?

Having wiki'd it, and without spoiling it for you (if you haven't seen it), it's season 14 episode 12 "I'm Spelling As Fast As I Can" and the Ribwich is a Homer sub-plot to Lisa participating in spelling bees.

And this is only the industrialized, processed, mass marketed, mass produced version of American culinary gluttony. You should SEE some of the other stuff that never makes it to the big time.
