Argentina will either completely collapse and go out in the groups or they'll skank their way to the trophy.Optimus Prime Rib wrote:Im taking Argentina to win it all.
My money is (or will be once I can be arsed to log into into my williamhill account) on Spain.
Which means the Dutch will win it.

If I was a betting man, I'd place it on a draw between the US and England. England tends to start slow in the Cup lately, and with the Ferdinand injury, they'll be a bit unsure of themselves. That combined with the "let's concentrate on defense, be opportunistic, and have good possessions" style of play that allowed them to beat Spain, and I think they have a good chance to walk away with a point.
I would also have to go with Argentina. Who knows how Messi and Maradona get there, but the last two talented teams with turbulent press/coaches won the Cup (Italy & Brazil). Plus I've made good friends with an Argentinian I'm going to school with, and I'm looking forward to watching some games with him.

Precisely.
The number of gangly calamity-prone massively over-rated ego-trip defenders who blatantly started their career in midfield in the team has dropped by one.
And that's a good thing.
Should still have taken Jagielka though. That's how you deal with people like Messi. Man-mark the [composite word including 'f*ck'] out of them.
I was actually predicting that Rio would get crocked before the first match the night before it happened. Admittedly I was doing it out of spite towards a Man Utd fan who was raving about the guy, but still.

There's been a lot of grouching about the slippery ball (although teams had at least a month to grow used to it), but on both goals, the keeper showed bad form: Green should have gotten his body behind it, and the Algerian should have punched or volleyed the ball away instead of trying to scoop it up, considering the angle and velocity.

Yep. Pretty much.
I thought it was harsh to start with, but then upon examination of the facts realised it was the only possible call.
Besides which, Uruguay were denied a pen earlier on after one of the Bafanas kicked their guy on the shin then slammed him to the ground in the area without any real attempt on the ball. Not that it justifies them getting a dodgy one later on... there was nothing dodgy about the one they were awarded.
Whilst I may have money on Spain, Go Toblerone Country!
