2010 Fifa World Cup - The greatest show on earth!

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

If we can get some miracle healing, I feel like we might stand a chance. Sorry Impy, I gotta go against you on this one.

A bit of seppo smashing will be an excellent way to initiate the WC.

And then it will be all good until the Quarter Finals. AS ALWAYS.

I've made a list of pubs without screens in central London - I'm intending to miss the entire tournament if at all possible.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Argentina will either completely collapse and go out in the groups or they'll skank their way to the trophy.

My money is (or will be once I can be arsed to log into into my williamhill account) on Spain.

Which means the Dutch will win it.

If I was a betting man, I'd place it on a draw between the US and England. England tends to start slow in the Cup lately, and with the Ferdinand injury, they'll be a bit unsure of themselves. That combined with the "let's concentrate on defense, be opportunistic, and have good possessions" style of play that allowed them to beat Spain, and I think they have a good chance to walk away with a point.

I would also have to go with Argentina. Who knows how Messi and Maradona get there, but the last two talented teams with turbulent press/coaches won the Cup (Italy & Brazil). Plus I've made good friends with an Argentinian I'm going to school with, and I'm looking forward to watching some games with him.

Precisely.

The number of gangly calamity-prone massively over-rated ego-trip defenders who blatantly started their career in midfield in the team has dropped by one.

And that's a good thing.

Should still have taken Jagielka though. That's how you deal with people like Messi. Man-mark the [composite word including 'f*ck'] out of them.

I was actually predicting that Rio would get crocked before the first match the night before it happened. Admittedly I was doing it out of spite towards a Man Utd fan who was raving about the guy, but still.

Then you'd hate to be in SA right now, with their giant 114ft vuvuzela that they blowing to signal the start of each and every match.

Oh man that was fun!

Good thing Green has bad hand eye coordination or it might have turned out different, but DAMN was it exciting.

Bizarrely, the Algerian goalkeeper just conceded in pretty much the exact same manner. At least Green got a touch on it.

There's been a lot of grouching about the slippery ball (although teams had at least a month to grow used to it), but on both goals, the keeper showed bad form: Green should have gotten his body behind it, and the Algerian should have punched or volleyed the ball away instead of trying to scoop it up, considering the angle and velocity.

I think in Greens case he looked a bit stiff from nerves and simply misjudged it.
He is prone to making these kind of mistakes mind you...

how? The Uruguay guy (heh) was onside, the keeper definitely caught him, got non of the ball and was the last man - red card and penalty. end of.

Yep. Pretty much.

I thought it was harsh to start with, but then upon examination of the facts realised it was the only possible call.

Besides which, Uruguay were denied a pen earlier on after one of the Bafanas kicked their guy on the shin then slammed him to the ground in the area without any real attempt on the ball. Not that it justifies them getting a dodgy one later on... there was nothing dodgy about the one they were awarded.

Whilst I may have money on Spain, Go Toblerone Country!

It would have been amusing seeing Torres look like he was about to start crying if not for the fact HE LOOKS LIKE THAT ALL THE TIME.
