2010 Fifa World Cup - The greatest show on earth!

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Did the idiot ITV commentator just say "Bye bye, big American sigh"? ****.

Yay for Ghana. Shame about the States.

Sad to see the US knocked out. On the other hand, I've got Ghana in the office pool, so... Silver lining and whatnot.

After the penalty ours said that Bill Clinton, Mick Jagger and other Americans must be really happy now. :o

The upside of European teams playing each other is that it guarantees some of them reaching quarter-finals.

Oh well.

At least we've got a fresh batch of newly blooded talented young players who'll build on the experience and use it as a springboard through the Euros and into the next World Cup.

Eh? Oh.

****.

Germany played really well.
But the game might've taken a different path if FIFA had installed goal cameras.

You don't even need goal line technology.

The Europa League trialed having an extra referee stood behind each goal. Job done, surely?

Yeah. A goal camera is more accurate though ;)
But yes, this problem is really easy to fix.

And the ref in the Argentina/Mexico match has proven why a camera would be so much better.

And proven how quickly it could work, too. Shame they're not allowed to have seen what they saw.

There's already enough cameras that show what is going on on the pitch. Even putting another hundred won't help if they don't ******* allow the referees to use them to help them to make correct decisions.

I mean, Germany and Argentina would probably win it on their own, but still that's ****.

Germany should have been DQ'd as soon as the goalie admitted that he cheated. Especially since they'd have won anyway. Ah, vengeance.

Yeah - that's the other elemant - th ecomplete lack of sporting behaviour - if players actually did the decent thing there would be much less debabte about this osrt of thing.

For some reasons the words 'Thierry' and 'Henry' are popping into my head right now

Imagine if the goalie had said it went in to the ref and the ref gave it. Surely you would be hailed as a hero across the globe!

JT is a ****, I swear he let half of those goals in on purpose as no one can play that ****!

Didn't something like that happen in English league several years back? I remember hearing that a team was awarded a penalty, but one of its players thought it shouldn't haven been given and he made a weak shot from the penalty on purpose, goalkeeper deflected it, but then some other guy scored from a rebound.

If Japan doesn't put up a good show tonight, everybody's going to be completely worthless tomorrow. The "lack of sleep" will finally catch up with 'em.

I'm not a fan of soccer. Not my cup of tea. But this kind of hypocritical ******** I can't stand:

http://msn.foxsports.com/other/story/Wo ... US-TV-fans

Anytime the US doesn't top the world in something, it's labelled "boring" or a "waste of time".

Trying to "shove it down our throats?" Give me a ******* break. NBA and NFL, that's what's shoved down our throats.

Can any sport be as mindnumbingly boring as baseball? You don't see this guy speaking out against that, do you?

I guarantee you if the US won the World Cup, this Lowry asshole would be tooting a different horn.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

Wow Japan. Put in the dude whos NEVER scored. Bet you were regretting that move once he hit the damn cross bar. UGH! I wanted them to win so badly.

Portugals goalie was freaking ridiculous, too bad that rebound went right back to Villa. That and he needed a lot more production from the offense.

Exciting game, though. Good show by both sides. The outcome was well deserved.

Go Ghana!

...or anybody but Germany.

Its gonna be an blood pumping game though. I cant wait. Same for Netherlands and Spain. Cannot wait.

I think Brazil will end up winning their side of the bracket. Unless Paraguay pulls some kind of miracle.

Netherlands beat Brasil!

Dunga will be executed for this and everyone of the players will be shot at sight in Rio.

I hope Ghana goes ahead on Uruguay (Uruguay just equalized as I write this), but regardless, the idea that Ghana, Uruguay, or the Dutch will most definitely be in the final is quite exciting. And as long as someone that's NOT Germany gets in on the other side of the bracket, I'll be quite pleased there as well.

The last couple minutes of Uruguay-Ghana were heartbreaking!

That penalty that Ghana lost before the penalty round was incredible.

Uruguay won at the end.

But somehow I wanted them both to pass, Ghana played pretty well and Im sad for them

did you actually read the whole article? or just skimmed it for key points? Because he stated that he understood the love of it.. but is mostly tired of the bandwagon fans who suddenly know EVERYTHING about the sport.

Ill give you a perfect example. I LOVE hockey.. but it should NEVER have a professional team south of the Mason-Dixon line. Now we have minor league teams all over the nation with people who are suddenly experts on hockey, but really only watch it to see if a fight breaks out. And lets face it, minor league hockey is nothing more than a bar fight on skates.
