2010 Fifa World Cup - The greatest show on earth!

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Comedy defending from "the best team in the world", too. I thought Casillas was the Swiss keeper making a run, the way he was charging upfield desperately trying everything bar going for the ball with his hands.

Spain is an overhyped team full of overpaid players. Thats the reason they will fail. No congealing, just big egos and big mouths. I mean losing to the Swiss??? Really???

Hahahahahaha.

The Germans got done by Serbia. And the ref, but they can't blame not being able to score on him. Ghana **** Australia tomorrow and it could well be auf wiedersehen to the Germans as well as the Frenchies.

As I write, Slovenia are doing their own smash and grab on the States. Looks to be a good day all round for the Slavians.

No idea what that was disallowed for.

The ref has blown for one of the 3 fouls being made... But they were all being made by slovinia. Bad decision!

Yeah, that line was the only entertaining thing about the match.

Actually, that's a lie. Algeria were quite good. Shame about the rest.

Im still reeling from those South African refs taking away our goal. Hell, i think Id settle for, at the very least, AN EXPLANATION. No call was or has been made as to what the mystery penalty was. Sometimes it makes me wish for a review....

Anyone else extremely thrilled that those Italian actors tied New Zealand? Oh man was I!! When you have the guys in the booth calling you out after every 'injury', and then saying 'Well, thats just the way their accustomed to playing'. You know you're a laughing stock.

Yeah the Kiwis were sublime - they rode their luck a few times but overall it was a titanic performance. They could have won it, despite the fact the ref seemed, in the second half anyway, to only notice fouls on the Italian players.

Of course they do somewhat call attention to themselves in those instances...

and roll

and clutch face

and roll again

and remeber it was your leg and clutch that instead

and roll some more

and sneakily look up to see if a foul has been given or if you need to role some more, safe in the knowledge that no one will ever know you are hamming it up a bit

Well, we're all through. Excited that we're lining up against Ghana/Serbia, South Korea or Uruguay rather than Argentina, Mexico, and Germany, but still not convince that we can make a go of it, although we've clearly got more firepower and confidence than I've ever seen out of our national team.

And even if we had lost, well, we'd still have looked better than France.

TBH, going by the stats, I thought Serbia would've beaten Australia, thereby creating the potential for an England v Germany final.

Then again, going by the stats, I thought England would've been third and out, as well.

I called in at work after the US won, I was too excited to be cooped up inside all day. I even ran outside with my shirt over my head....seemed to be the only one in my neighborhood who was watching.

Good on the Aussies for showing up, too bad the goal differential was too unbalanced.

England. Good luck. Hope you show up those krauts!

Oh, and Brazil v Portugal....STOKED!

I watched USA V England in Hollywood, there was quite a lot of interest there.

Not everybody admittedly, but lots were aware, ESPN was covering it massively and the pubs we went to were rammed, at only 11am

Apparently the rating were even comparable to the Lakers game that night.

And Italy falls as well, although that second goal was a beautiful shot, probably one of the best of the Cup thus far.

Gah! If chili hadnt been playing a man down (and if their goalie wasnt a complete idiot by going after that ball 20 ft out of the box, COME ON) they might have pulled off the win. Cya Switzerland, your one shining moment was beating Spain. Too bad you suck.

And Ha-Freakin-Ha to Italy. Thats what you get for being d-bags. GTFO.

So...

Netherlands vs Slovakia
Brazil vs Chile

Uruguay vs South Korea
USA vs Ghana

Germany vs England
Argentina vs Mexico

Paraguay vs Japan
Spain vs Portugal

All the European teams have ended up paired with another European side. Bizarre.
