What? This was the best chance this movie had.
And... it's because of inter-company-fighting in Hollywood. Of course. Why not just give the rights back to the Tolkien estate? At least that way Christopher Tolkien can remain a cranky old man who doesn't want any movies made.

Well, I always felt if Jackson wasn't directing, it wasn't worth the effort.
If Peter doesn't step in, can't say I'm eagerly awaiting the disaster this movie will likely become.

The wife loved that cartoon. She's been trying to get me to watch it. I want it in comics form.

As for the film itself, I love the book more than LOTR (mainly thanks to the excellent BBC radio version I had as a kid), but trying to get two films out of a very slightly plotted book was taking the piss. So I hope it never happens.

The two film thing is bunk. They ought to do one film of the Hobbit and one of Beren and Luthien or some equivalently epic Silmarillion story.

Scroll down. Jackson directing The Hobbit? Might be some life left in this thing yet.

I heard the same. This is really the only way to do it--for one thing, Jackson knows exactly what Del Toro was planning and though he'll do it differently, because of proximity he'll be able to implement all the Del Toro stuff.
However, given the sh*t performance of Lovely Bones, we might be better off wishing for Alfonso Cuaron or someone of similar caliber to sweep in.

i think at the point where he decided that EVERY movie had to have a mystery with a twist.
It's like Spielberg deciding that every movie he did had to have a sea monster in it.
Plus i get the impression that he responds to criticism by thinking "They are wrongheaded fools and i must prove them wrong by persisting with that which they criticise".

The Sixth Sense was good, and I enjoyed Unbreakable. But thereafter, things became awful. Strange, that he could go from so good to so bad. Maybe he just had one or two good ideas from the start, and after that, nothing.

I had my MP Prime with me in the theater for The Village/ My friend Kevin played with it the whole time. He really enjoyed the movie. The rest of us, not so much.

Sixth Sense and Unbreakable are great. Signs would be brilliant if not for the stupidity of the twist (water? really?). I guessed the twist of The Village from the trailer and th Happening just looked terrible.

I thought Sixth Sense was overrated, Unbreakable underrated, Signs enjoyable in a schlocky kind of way. I also enjoyed The Village, although I suppose that has to do with the concept more than the execution, and the "twist" was also easy to decipher. Lady of the Water and Happening, if converted into paper, would not be worth wiping your ass with.
I think he DID buy into his hype a bit much, and doesn't really know how to built tension or suspense without a "reveal" or "twist" structure. Also, I think he might be fine as either a director OR a writer. When he's both, there's not enough check on his artistic instincts, which are poor.
That's why right now, even thought you would think The Last Airbender in 3D would be a smash hit, the dual problems of the director's track record and all the stink raised over the casting will probably make this the dud that kills his career.

which part? the tree driving? or me being funny as ****?spiderfrommars wrote:Optimus Prime Rib wrote:I actually enjoyed The Happening...
But maybe it was just John Leguizamo (too lazy to check spelling) driving himself into a tree.
OPR, you are Comedy Gold.
I feel this is not said enough.
On a related subject: I was SO excited to see Kick-Ass until I actually watched the movie. It was god aweful. But it DID have the one thing that proves to me that there is a God and he does answer prayers -
Nicolas Cage being burned alive while he "acts" like hes in pain.
This (and ok i admit, Hit Girl) were the only redeeming qualities of this movie.

I'm going to see that movie now. Actually, I'm just going to watch the part where Cage is burned alive.
