Rowling on single parenting and the Tories

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Rowling on single parenting and the Tories

I know [composite word including 'f*ck']-all about English politics, but this is worth a read for Rowling's thoughts on welfare from both sides of her Cinderella story.

English people, feel free to educate me on the nature of your King, Parliament, and red-coated soldiers with funny wigs.

Money shot: "I cannot help feeling, therefore, that it would have been contemptible to scarper for the West Indies at the first sniff of a seven-figure royalty cheque. This, if you like, is my notion of patriotism. On the available evidence, I suspect that it is Lord Ashcroft’s idea of being a mug."

Or do one big poo in the morning and another one in the afternoon. I bet they weren't even excited by and then subsequently disappointed by Star Wars Prequels. Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

i love JK Rowling.

And now i love her a little bit more.

Some quite amazing venom in the comments, no doubt from people who consider themselves 'decent'.

And for the record, being a so called champagne socialist is ace - i mean what's not to like? Share the bubbles i say.

Rowling is a mediocre writer, imo, but this is a worthwhile article.

There's so much of this around that I sometimes think 'decent' needs to be redefined as 'nauseatingly needy, ill-mannered, selfish, prattish, twattish and dull'.

And they seem so wilfully pissed off all the time.

Don't get me wrong, i get annoyed at stuff. But this manifests itself in sublimely humourous dissections of All Hail Megatron and then i move on.

Surely, given that life doesn't seem to actually be that bad for the majority of these people, it takes a whole lot of effort to be that miserable about the world?

And now i realise i am generalising about a group of people i have never met who probably don't quite exist and i am as bad as anyone.

How annoying! Grr.

Wait...
