Winter Olympics anyone?

I told you to watch out for the Slovaks, they have a pretty impressive team. Sweeden did seem to give up a little in the third though.

How about that atrocity on ice that was the Russian team? Jesus, they play like balls then decide to just start cheap shotting the Canadians (I didnt mind some of it, laughed a little when Boyle got butt hurt from the high hit). I really was expecting a great game, such a let down.....

I thought that Canada - Russia was going to be "the game of the year" or something... but as you said: such a let down.

Well, my alliance lies with Team USA now. Hope they can reach the final and take the gold!

Team USA, what are you doing?
I wanted a game that was gonna go to overtime or something... but no. You completely pulverize Finland in the first period.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's disappointed by the late-round shitkickings we've been seeing this year. Canada-Russia was such a let-down, but most of the people I know were so busy waving the flag that they didn't care about the game, just the outcome.

I have to admit I'm a bit nervous about this game. Canada has more talent, but I don't think there's any question that the States have been the better team so far. Canada's been very inconsistent, and that needs to stop if they're going to win. When they're playing well they've just been absolutely putting the boots to everyone they've faced, but they can't afford to make any of the boneheaded mistakes that we've seen so much of in this tournament.

But win or lose, one thing's for sure -- there's going to be one hell of a riot in Vancouver on Sunday evening.

The bronze match is up in a couple of hours. Finland - Slovakia, should be good :)
Finland needs to restore their honour after the game against the US. And Selänne, Koivu and the other old farts probably wanna finish their international careers with a medal.
At the same time a bronze medal would be a super accomplishment for the Slovaks (I have no idea if this sentence makes any sense).

Have you guys heard about this new rule? It's called "Chris Pronger is allowed to cross-check whoever he wants, whenever he wants".

Come on USA, win this ******* thing!

I didn't need anyone to tell me that the Canadian men had won gold in hockey; people started driving up and down the street outside honking their horns incessantly for about 2 hours or so afterward. That and I got a ton of text messages from people who normally don't give two flips about Hockey.

*Grumbles somethng about valuable napping time, lost forever*

In other news, my cat won Tinfoil in the Catnip Duckie event. She then proceeded to win Kibble in the Tinfoil Ball event.

I have to admit, I believe I was rooting for Canada. I mean, Hockey's all they have people!

This is just another sport that America feels entitled to. If you believe (and I do) that any country has a finite amount of athletic talent, then most of the US's talent goes to football, basketball, and baseball. Hockey gets the leftovers, and soccer gets what fell on the floor. So if another country lives and breathes hockey, I certainly don't begrudge them for beating us, any more than I demand the US do well at the World Cup. Honestly, we're pretty ridiculous. It's like curling: we suck. HARD. Apparently our Olympic team lost to some guys at a curling club just a few days before the games. We don't care about curling, and we suck at it. But the SECOND we sucked in front of everybody, and America realized we suck at curling, everyone is all "What's the matter with US Curling? This is an outrage!" We feel like if we put for a modicum of effort into a sport, we're entitled to success because we're America. Now clearly, hockey is a bit different, because we DO have some lineage and effort into the game of hockey, but the same basic principle holds.

Meanwhile, got a kick out of Medvedev going ballistic about the Russian effort. Admittedly, it was a surprise how poorly they fared in figure skating, but you can't just coast on Soviet infrastructure forever. They're going to need to turn it around in a hurry if they want to represent as well as Canada did in 2014.

Best thing about the Winter Olympics for me?

It gave me the chance to yell "Oh no! Ohno!" after he was disqualified.

You don't get that opportunity often, people.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

I didn't mean for it to come across that way. There are many great things about Canada, I know. But I was thinking of it this way: When the US lost, not even everyone really knew or cared the next day, and I doubt that would have changed much if we had WON. But for Canada, this meant a lot, for various reasons: it's hockey, you're the host country, haven't won in awhile, finally beat Russia this year, etc. etc. I ALWAYS tend to root for the team that's more emotionally invested in the outcome.
