Dirty Marvel Trick?

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

What a cheapass tactic.

And stupid.

Makes me curious just how good this Blackest Night is. I think I'll go read it. Thanks Marvel!

Does this mean DC don't operate a Sale-Or-Return policy, then?

Come to think of it, do Marvel? Or any comic company?

I don't know why some many people are crying about this. It's not like Marvel put gun to retailers' heads and told them to do it.

Besides, it's funny.

I don't see the big deal. It's just a variant cover, right? It's not like it's the only way they get to stock the comic.

Is it any different to random dealer or LCS saying "I'll swap you this rare edition for a selection of your comics"? I mean really?

For a company the size of Marvel, it's cheap.

I can understand trying to outsell your rival by advertising better, increasing your exposure, even slandering your rivals product, etc. But convincing retailers to pull DC comics off the shelf with a carrot so they don't make it to consumers is just dirty.

It's fair play. It's business. But it's dirty.

I don't think they're trying to convince retailers to pull DC comics off the shelf. Surely the retailers would pull comics off the shelves, anyway - and replace them with newer comics which they might be able to sell?

No, this is just Marvel trying to encourage retailers to send them the old stock, instead of sending it wherever they usually send it.

Where do they usually send it, btw? Not back to the publishers, that'd be SOR, which clearly isn't in effect here.

Into the "cheap back issues" section of the store?

Marvel most likely is trying to find out how the ring promotion worked out for DC. You know the "hey, retailers, we'll give (sell?) you a bag of these nice Indigo Corps rings you can sell or just give to your favourite customers, but first you have to order 25 copies of a comic that noboby probably would buy from you". Where was the internet-wide outcry about "dirty" tactics then?

And those DC issues came out on September or October and the "promotion" was aanouced in December or January, so I don't know where this "so they don't make it to consumers" came from. Unless said consumer is Hitler. :o
