2010 Movies

So now that we've adequately, ahem, discussed Avatar, which movies are you looking forward to most this year?
For me:
Tron: Legacy Greetings program! This is the one I want to see. For both nostalgia and, of course, the new 3-D tech.
Inception After seeing the trailer to this, starring DiCaprio and directed by Nolan, it's high on my "must see" list.
Toy Story 3 in 3-D No explanation necessary.
How to Train Your Dragon Another animated 3-D movie that looks fun
Clash of the Titans Another bit of nostalgia, can it be as good as the first? Doubt it.
Akira starring DiCaprio, about time they went live action for this legendary tale
Predators Will probably end up being crap, but who knows?
Some others that might be worth seeing:
Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe, might be worth the viewing
Karate Kid No way it can be as good as the original, but Jackie Chan as Mr. Myagi I gotta see
The A-Team A guilty pleasure perhaps, but hey, Sharlto Copley's in it. I love prawns!
Iron Man 2

I am totally seeing Robin Hood for costumes, sets and staged action. Screw plot and characters.

Or do one big poo in the morning and another one in the afternoon. I bet they weren't even excited by and then subsequently disappointed by Star Wars Prequels. Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

I rewatched Clash of the Titans last year. Harryhausen awesomeness aside, it hasn't aged what I'd call well.
I am, however awesomely excited about the remake since I saw the trailer before Holmes and realised that the tagline is "Titans will clash."
How genius is that? The film's called Clash of the Titans, and in order to further sell it to you, the best thing they could think of saying was "Titans will clash." In case you can't get that from the title. Or the trailer full of clashing titans.
IT'S GOING TO BE AWESOME.
Also: Iron Man 2 (obvs), Book of Eli (Denzel and Oldman? Yes please) and Wolfman.
Has Parnassus not had a US release yet then?

In the event that we actually have enough money to see things in theatres:
Titans
Alice In Wonderland (why is it that when people make Wonderland movies, they mishmash Alice and Through The Looking Glass together? I'll still see it, but eh.)
Iron Man 2
The Wolfman
Book of Eli
So far. Likely to change as I see more trailers for new films.
Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus came out here this Friday, I'll add that to the list as well.
very late edit: Oh, I also want to see Daybreakers.

Was out here quite a while back, iirc. I really liked it, though the recasting did make it seem a little disjointed... but hey, y'gotta roll with the punches.IronHide wrote:Nope. Hit Europe first didnt it? Not sure why its taken so long for a full release. From what I've read its flat out amazing.Brendocon wrote:

Of the films people have listed that I've seen, Parnassus and Holmes are 4 star flicks and Daybreakers is a decent 3. All in my own personal opinion, obvs.
It was daft. And the cure-related "twist" was obvious. But enjoyed it. Not as good as it thought it was.
I'm probably more tolerant of mediocre films, being as I sit through more of them now that I only technically pay for two movies a month. It's incredible what you'll forgive when it's essentially free.

Just thought of this - given it's Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe, and given the 'historically accurate' nature of the film, it's basically going to be Gladiator but set about 1000 years later and about 1000 miles northwest.bumblemusprime wrote:I am totally seeing Robin Hood for costumes, sets and staged action. Prediction: Inception will be the sleeper hit of the year. There are some beautiful filmed snippets out there
And the cinematography on Robin Hood looks fantastic. The whole arrow scene was ripped off from Hero though.

Robin Hood was good, only because of the cinematography of the last thirty minutes. Otherwise, forgettable.
Clash of the Titans a dud.
Still eagerly awaiting Tron.
Sleeper hit of the year is going to be Inception. Guarantee it.

Titans: We knew it wasn't going to be fantabulous. But FLYING HORSIE. [/girlsquee]. Oh, and I did like their version of the Kraken. But to be honest, you don't have to try too hard to win me over when it comes to imaginary beasts and the like.
Alice In Wonderland: Surprised me a bit by not being exactly the same old tired take. Johnny Depp was bearable as the Hatter, but making Alice in Wonderland "trendy" is unforgivable. Mainly because my "traditional"-type Hatter Halloween outfit will have to wait a few years until AiW is uncool again. Just when I'd found the perfect bloody hat, too. The amount of costume changes in this movie was staggering.
Iron Man 2: We only just saw this... last week? Very enjoyable. But I want an explanation as to why Natalie Rushman (was she outed at that point? I can't remember) changed dresses in the middle of Tony's birthday party. If I had the figure and the money for it I'd make this year's Halloween costume "Natalie Rushman at Tony's birthday" and just spend the night changing dresses.
Book of Eli: Also good. From what the BF said a friend of his complained that the movie was "too preachy". I don't believe his friend actually knows what preachy means.
Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus: Watched it on DVD. It was very entertaining. Hype tends to kill things for me, and though I tried to ignore the hype (Ledger was a favourite) I think that may have happened a bit here. As entertained as I was by it I can't help but think that if Ledger was still alive today, this movie would not have been praised so highly. Or maybe it would have- with Ledger still alive, the movie wouldn't have had to go through the rewrites. So who knows? But I will miss seeing that man in films. He could actually act.
It's almost heartbreaking that someone like him could kick the bucket, but morons like Nic Cage just keep on going.
Daybreakers: I remember liking it quite a bit, but I honestly can't remember a thing about the movie right now. I guess it's time for a rewatch!
All in all, I wasn't heavily disappointed by anything I saw. Only thing I haven't seen out of my list was The Wolfman.
July:
I want to see Inception, BF wants to see Predators so I'll probably end up at that... The Sorcerer's Apprentice looks like a toss-up. From the looks of the trailer I just watched, Nic Cage has "widened his horizons" by adding a new facial expression to his repertoire: The "Crazy Guy With Wide Eyes" look. That gives him a grand total of three separately discernible facial expressions, good for him!

You know how sometimes it is hard too remember the best movies you have seen in a given year, you might especially forget the ones from the year's beginning. So I decided to try something and do a list and see which ones will end up at the top. I'm pretty sure there's some fancy software for it, but a txt file is enough for it, so here's the list of all the movies I've seen so far this year (excluding Polish ones you won't hear about anyway) from the one I enjoyed the most:
Iron Man 2
The A-Team
Sherlock Holmes
Kick-Ass
Up In The Air
From Paris With Love
Date Night
The Ghost Writer
Hot Tub Time Machine
Edge Of Darkness
Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time
Robin Hood
Clash Of The Titans
The Book Of Eli
Whatever Works
Killers
The Good Heart
I Love You, Philip Morris
Shutter Island
Drag Me To Hell
Valentine's Day
The Bounty Hunter
Ondine
New York, I Love You
Alice In Wonderland
Legion
The Lovely Bones
The Men Who Stare at Goats
Everybody's Fine
The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus
A Serious Man
Nine
The Wolfman
The Wolfman is the only one I really hated, the rest that are low on the list I liked, but not as much as others.
I missed Daybreakers, Invictus didn't come to our cinemas, The Losers probably won't either, I'm hoping Scott Pilgrim will.
In the next weeks I see myself going to see Knight & Day, Shrek Forever, Inception, The Sorcerer's Apprentice and maybe A Nightmare On Elm Street and When In Rome.

Again, no Toy Story 3. Huh.

I know I wasn't bedazzled enough by the other two to want to.
