If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Never seen
eXistenZ. Have seen the
Matrix, which I thought was one of the most overrated movies in history.
Total Recall was okay for it's time.
But I'm not sure what that has to do with
Inception though. Cliched ending? I thought it was one of the best endings to a movie I've seen in a long time. Very much like
Prestige.

The first Matrix movie was utterly awesome. Total Recall is STILL cool when it comes on TV. The Prestige had "the prestige" at the end, whereas I DID feel that after you found out that Leonardo's wife was gone, you certainly had a good impression on where the movie was going to end.
Just saw "Due Date." Quite funny! Although I'm not sure if the movie itself was funny, or if Zach Galafinakis reading a grocery list would be just as funny, provided he has a beard.

They challenge your perception of reality. Is this real, or is it some simulation/dream/etc.? Another film that does this is The Thirteenth Floor.
Sure, Inception may execute it more smoothly, but my point was that it wasn't original in that respect.

I'm not sure if it's still the case but it seemed a year or so ago Total Recall was on one of the ITV channels at least once a week. Which of course it should be as it's awesome. " HAHAHAHAHASO YOU THINK THIS IS THE REAL QUAID? IT IS!"

There's also that episode of Buffy where she thinks she's mental.

Love this line. Always use it when I'm telling a friend I'll be somewhere. In the Arnold accent, of course.

Just saw Skyline.
The visual effects are good. Which they should be considering that the Brothers Strause are vfx people and not actually directors. Well, they've directed a film before (AvP2 - my feelings on which are well documented) and I think they've done music videos, which really shows here.
Fun film-making fact: Slow motion and explosions do not equate to drama unless paired up with emotional investment and/or characters who aren't lazy sketches spouting overwrought cliches in lieu of interesting dialogue. Meaning it falls way short of the dramatic impact it's going for in pretty much every scene.
Had lots of potential, but ultimately comes across as a cheap mash-up of Cloverfield, Independence Day and District 9. Without any wit, warmth, political commentary, originality, general point or anything particularly interesting going on for it.
Really could have done without the final scene too.
5/10. Which is about three marks higher than I was expecting it to get, based solely on the pretentiously named directors' track record. At least I could see clearly what was going on this time, so they are capable of learning.

It's freaky that the exsistence of this film has completely passed me by till today when every single person I meet has suddenly gone on about how they're going to see it and do I think it's going to be good.

You have to be in trouble when you are relying on Xander Harris's sh*t mate to save the day.

Hey, he was way more than just Xander's mate. He was the 24 character so popular he went five years between appearances.
Though his character was also a bit **** in that as well.

Yeah but still. One vague allusion? At all? At some point? Might have been nice?
Maybe whilst Buffy was on one of her whaa whaa I had to kill Angel none of you have any idea how I feel kicks?
Because let's be honest, Xander probs knew Jesse better than Buffy did Angel.

Just messing mate (and visualising) - totally agree - it's not as if the show was at least 26% defined by throw away references to previous episodes so yeah an allusion or two would have been nice.

Loved the scene where they crash that Star Trek gig with the Khan statue.

Saw Mega Mind. In IMAX 3-D, of course.
Thought it was good fun. The 3-D was second only to How to Train Your Dragon, I thought.

Not second only to the 3D you see in everyday life?

I reckon Avatar holds that position.
On the subject of 3D, do you reckon one-eyed people (eyepatch, glass eye, etc.) get a discount when going to see 3D films, as they don't see the benefit?

We just go see the 2D version. I'm not even sure how I'd conclusively prove I can't see in 3D at the cinema anyway. They don't give you a little certificate at the opticians saying "Boss Eyed Freak: Official". Not to mention that I would have to put the glasses on anyway to see a normal picture, even if it aint a 3D one.

After seeing every 3-D flick known to man (including Jaws 3-D
) I am now convinced that 3-D animated films will always be superior to 3-D live action/animation amalgamations.
It just seems that with live action 3-D, there is a limit on how fast an object can move before blurring occurs, whereas with animated flicks this isn't a problem.
I've seen the Tron previews in IMAX 3-D, and it has fell short of my expectations because of this reason. Things moving too fast (like thrown discs and lightcycles) don't look good.

Paranormal Activity 2 is good fun, it's a prequel that for once manages to merge pretty much seamlessly into the original. Only real flaw is that, unlike the first, some of the situations where they're filming feel really forced.

Surely that problem's the same with 2D, and could be reduced by using shorter exposure periods on the capture equipment and/or higher frame rates (with the extra frames later dropped to return it to the lower rates).
Animation will always have that advantage over live action, as each frame of animation is of a static image, rather than of objects moving short distances in all sort of directions over a short time period.

I guess that's what I'm trying to say. Animation, in terms of 3-D, hold a technical advantage over live action. I think Avatar was the smoothest I've seen for live action. Don't think Tron, from what I've seen, is on par with it.

I love Cracked's list articles.
Even people who thought it was a piece of **** thought it was a beautiful piece of ****.
Yup, this sums it all up nicely I think.
I loved
Up, though.
