My favourite "horror" movie in ages. Why's the genre all remakes and Saw sequels these days?
Anyone else catch this?

I saw it. I liked it. She lovely.
Predictable twist, but nicely done.
Let The Right One in is worth watching. Lovely little film, if a bit overhyped. One of those ones that's probably brilliant if you've not heard anything about it and don't know what to expect, but is a bit overwhelming if you've had people who've seen it in those circumstances bigging it up for monthses.

Any film where the trailer is "we filmed the reaction of some Americans in an attempt to show you how scary our mockumentary is!" is blatantly going to be crap.snarl wrote:Paranormal Activity is bollocks.
Also any film with the pitch "this is a faithful reconstruction of real events, all of which were filmed in the first place, so we've incorporated it into the movie as well for comparative purposes. None of it's made up or faked! Honest!" can [composite word including 'f*ck'] off too. Mila Jovovich or not.
The Blair Witch has a lot to ******* answer for.

Despite seeing it was what was possibly the most stupid cinema audience I've ever seen (I suspect a bunch of dribbling New Moon fans who couldn't get into that) I though Paranormal Activity was an exceptionally well done little film. Not an original bone in its body and the main bloke is so irritating (every time someone tells him to do something he does the opposite- except the one time he really should have- and makes things worse, and then keeps refusing to take any responsibility) the inevitable grizzly comeuppance is as much a relief as a shock.
However, great use of sound creates some genuine jumps and the performance of the nightly bosomed girl (seriously, the "demon" was probably hidden in there) is excellent. Shame about the little bit of CGI in the last few seconds, by the sound of it the original more low key ending is more effective, and leaves a little more question as to what was really going on. That said, the big jump moment in the current ending works extremely well.

I genuinely enjoyed paranormal activity, and must agree with the above poster. It was an awesome jumpy movie, but Micah was SO ANNOYING. Everything he did was so predictable and exactly the opposite of what he was told. Agree completely. Not to mention this was a big part of what made the movie less realistic for me, their totally under-freaked-out reactions to these things, when there's demon footprints on your floor, you get the cuss out. I don't care if it will follow you or your cinematography budget won't allow for another set, you would NOT be staying there. On the positive side, the movie was very original and well done on its modest budget of $11,000 or so. I think he was very creative but maybe I just need to see blair witch. In closing about Paranormal, I think it's very nice to see a horror film that isn't total crap or a sequel come out. I like to see a movie filmed by the people in it that isn' Motion Sickness: The Motion Picture. I liked it and it was an enjoyable movie to go see.
As for Drag Me to Hell, I LOVED IT. Then again I am a faithful deadite and Sam Raimi fan, so perhaps I'm biased. Seeing as my favorite parts are homages to the Evil Dead series this is made even more evident. Despite that there's no denying this is the best PG-13 (in the US) horror film we've probably ever seen. Not to mention it's very original and capitalized on my worst, and also my friend's worst fears when we went to see it. (I'm most afraid of demons and possesions, which made Paranormal even better for me; my friend is afraid of old ladies and goats )
