Spectacular Spider-Man (cartoon)

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Spectacular Spider-Man (cartoon)

Post by bumblemusprime » Fri Oct 02, 2009 12:17 am

I am loving this cartoon. Me and Chrissy watch two or three of them every night. The animation reminds me a bit of Humberto Ramos, or the new guy on Ultimate, whats-his-name. The writing is full of great character development--the way Peter's friends get really angry that he ran from the fight with the Lizard is precious.

Only one thing is bugging me. Is there an origin episode? The series just starts post bug-bite and post-Uncle-Ben. I know everyone knows the story, but I wanted to see this take on the origin. Anyone have any idea?

"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

Ooh, i will only subscribe to that when he churns out 30+ issues without a delay - two of the many good things about US is the the regularity of the publishing schedule and the consistency of the art.

I love this cartoon. Season 3 can't come soon enough!

All the characters, heroes, villains, Peter's friends and enemies (they even made Tombstone into a very interesting villain) get so much characterization. That's not surprising since Greg Weissman is the series director, and he has proven with Gargoyles that he can build very 'real' characters.

Love the relationship between Peter and Eddie Brock too, I think in the comics they weren't really friends before he became Venom...

And the season 2 unmasking of the Goblin even surprised me... I didn't see that coming. Real genius.

Don't give anything away! I'm still working my way through Season 1. But yeah, so far I really like what they've done with Eddie Brock.

[SPOILER]

The Fall Formal episode was hilarious. "And the Queen is... Red-Headed Girl Who Came With Peter Parker?"

Ooops, forgot to answer Yaya. You can find the cartoon by searching "Spectacular Spider-Man 1x1" on YouTube. That should lead you to the ffirst episode. Somebody put up every episode, split into three parts a la "1x1 part 1."

I finished watching it last weekend. This series is brilliant. I hope the only reason Season 2 is not on DVD yet (in proper set, not those three-four episode DVDs they seem to insist on doing when it comes to cartoons) is that it still hasn't finished in US.

As much as enjoyed Season 1, S2 was even better. They basically did a sequels to all important S1 arcs and they were improvements.

Shame that there most likely won't be S3. Greg Weissman said who would show up and in S2 those characters were already foreshadowed, so bummer.

There won't be a s3? BUmmer.

It seems almost like companies are going out of their way to cancel cartoons that are more then mindless fun (TFA, now Spectacular Spiderman, and where is S2 of Wolverine and the X-men)...
