God, The Wire's a bit rubbish isn't it? [Spoilers?]

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Haha. Only joking. It's tops.

I've done the first two seasons. Omar on the stand is one of the most hilarious things I've seen in years.

What the [composite word including 'f*ck']'s with killing off D'Angelo like that though? Tell me that gets paid off later, dawgs.

Season 3 this weekend. Ultraviolet may be long gone, but Idris Elba's still the ******* man.

Why you....

D'angelo's death certainly plays its part down the line.

When you walk through the garden...

Also, Bodie. Great character (also really like the actor having watched him as Bricks in Oz). The way he get's dispatched, that **** is ruthless, like Jermain Defoe tonight.

I'm waiting for season 4 to arrive from Lovefilm at the moment. I've read two comments about The Wire that I find pretty pertinent. One pointed that watching it almost inevitably turns you into a Wire missionary, trying to convince everyone else that they have to watch it or their life is a lie. The other was saying that it ruins TV because everything you watch after it seems to shallow and glossy.

SPOILERS GONE DONE FOLLOW DOG.

Well that finale was an unapologetically realistic wrap-up, wasn't it?

Some characters getting happy endings and the things they wanted... sadly it includes Rawls, Valchek and Marlo... though the latter's stuck between two worlds. Carcetti's governor, Pearlman's a judge, Daniels eventually gets his gig as lawyer, Carv makes lieutenant, Bubs gets acceptance, Namond escapes the system, hell even Poot's gone legit... but Michael ends up as a stick-up boy and Dukey a druggie with Prez having to stand by and watch it happen...

Greggs stays doing what she's doing, The Bunk stays The Bunk always, Clay and Levy get away scot-free with Herc playing the sides... but Lester never gets to follow the money and the only reason McNulty gets off is because it'd bring everything else crashing down.

The Greek's still out there and Omar gets to live on as legend, taken out in the only way he ever could have been.

Not everything perfect and gift-wrapped, but everything brutally as it should be. Some of the evil men get jailed, some walk. Some of the good people get their reward, some get the shaft or fall between the cracks, others end up exactly where they were when we started.

And some on both sides end up dead. Slim shooting Cheese was ace.

But damn yo' - Wallace, D'Angelo, Stringer, Fruit, Lex, Little Kevin, Bodie, Butchie, Prop Joe, Omar, Snoop, Cheese... man that's a hell of a butcher's bill. And that's just the tip of it.

The game remains the game.

That and you are actually envious of people who have not seen it yet as they have all the wonder of TV being that good to look forward to.

I am attempting recovery with DVD boxsets of Mad Men.

Well, now I eat crow for gloating on all y'all over Song of Ice and Fire. I have seen the first season.

Perhaps the best way to gauge my reaction is thus: I always look at interviews and gag reels. I am one of those guys who loves special features. However, I completely avoided the special features for this show because I don't want it to be unreal.

Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

Finished Season 4 and started Season 5. Other than the downplaying of already downplayed female characters (seriously, I kind wanted to know what was up w Zenobia) Season 4 has to stand as the single best long-form TV season I've ever seen.

Yeah season 4's definitely my favourite. Favourite iteration of the theme song, too.

Is it s4 that opened with Snoop in the hardware store?
Grrr. Argh.
