Michael Jackson Passes Away

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Michael Jackson Passes Away

Post by Yaya » Fri Jun 26, 2009 2:35 am

At first, I didn't really feel anything much but some shock at this news, maybe a little indifferent.

Then, thoughts of my childhood came to the forefront of my mind, the times when I would listen to Thriller and Billy Jean in middle school, times I would watch his videos, that moonwalk.

And I find myself sad by it.

I think things like this hit home in an even more powerful way. Things like this really make me reflect on my own mortality, as I will always associate Michael with his Thriller days and, hence, my own childhood days growing up. As he has moved on, so to do all of us who grew up with him.

His death serves as yet another reminder to me that time stands still for no person, even if they are iconic pop legends.

I heard the news in a fairly interesting way, and I'd like to share it.

Yesterday night, I was waiting for a train. The man next to me was checking the news on his cell phone. He kind of did a double take, then looked over at me.

"Uh..." he said, "Michael Jackson?"

"I'm sorry, what?" I asked in Japanese.

"Dead," he said in English.

Then he went back to checking out his phone.

Thank you, random Japanese man, for keeping me informed!

No, not devastated. Just felt a bit weird at first, and a bit sad later. Mostly I've been happy when I've heard his old songs and videos online and on TV recently.

Just happy we got to see the work he did. Feels a bit like he's found peace, from all the troubles that he's had in recent years.

I've yet to listen to Thriller again, while colouring, yet.. but it's on the list of things to do.

And yeah, Ob. That tour would have been damn cool. And his new album would have been quite something too, methinks. Apparently he's got a whole bunch of songs that are unpublished, but that's because Jacko never felt they measured up to the level that he wanted his next album to be on.

And, how cool wouldn't this have been? Michael and the Prince, together for the first time. The song is one of the greatest Pop-classics of all time, but contrary to logical belief, it might just have been even cooler.

Bad was supposed to be a duet with Prince

I have a vague recollecting of wanting to link that about 2.5 years ago, when I first started really discovering Michael Jackson.

In closing... I would like to show this, as a comparison between the greatest pop-stars of times past and the now. And just as a reminder to us all how talented the man was, even at this point of his life.

I won't believe he's achieved "haunting" status until he appears in a slice of toast!

So I saw This is It, by which I've come to two possible conclusions:

1. Those who think he was murdered might actually be on to something.

or

2. They were going to make a "The Making of 'This Is It'" documentary.

I enjoyed it, but couldn't help recognize that this film was made too well. The camera angles, the way it was filmed, could only have been possible if this was a planned movie before he died.

Make of that what you will. I enjoyed seeing his genius on the big screen, but can't shake that suspicious feeling in my gut now that I didn't have before seeing it, that there's something else to the man's death.

Guess that explains it.

Guess that explains it better.

Now all I need is Michael Jackson to show up at my door and spell it all out for me, and I''l be good.
