Wolverine Origins

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Meh. It was ok.

Far too many cliched moments for my liking, no real suprises.

I liked Gambit, a lot. This is a minor miracle as Gambit is a ****.

i felt the same way about Gambit. Felt like Deadpool got the shaft. What I really enjoyed was taking Koen and Mykal to thier first movie and seeing them both enjoy themselves. Especially as I can see them very much having a Sabretooth vs Wolverine mentality in thier competetiveness.

Best line of the movie:

"How do you plan on killing him?"
"Im going to cut his god-damned head off and see if that works"

That was pretty messed up of a movie...

-Gambit looked like a pimp and wasn't very convincing...
-So Wolverine and Sabertooth are brothers? WTF? Is that from Ultimates?
-Wolverine had a telepath girlfriend and her sister is Emma Frost (who is interestingly, not a telepath...) again, WTF.
-Poor Deadpool. He was so awesomely funny in Hulk vs. Wolverine, here, they pretty much castrated his character.

Frankly, if you want to see a good X-Men material, watch Wolverine and the X-men. That series is ace.

Nah, I think they're possibly father/son in Ultimates. I don't have an issue with them being brothers, tbh - simplifies the backstory.

I don't see anything to indicate that Emma isn't a telepath as well.

Seriously though, stunningly mediocre and dull film.

For some bizarre reason I stayed through the end credits to be rewarded with Logan downing shots in Japan. Huzzah. Seriously, I part expected RDJ to waltz in the door a la Hulk... and suddenly realised that would have upstaged the entire damn film.

One of the Deadpool endings is on YouTube here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGgns8PlWZs

Though other entries for that clip have been nixed by Fox, so pass on if it'll still be there now...

Supposedly there's a third that involves Ryan Reynolds wandering through the rubble and picking up the head. But obvs I can't find proof on that one.

Nah, the third ending is Stryker walking in the desert until his feet bleeds (literally) and then being arrested by Military Police. My bro saw that one.

I saw the military police ending, the shots in a bar ending (great!), and the Deadpool's hand picking up his head ending.

I've heard there's another ending where Ryan Reynolds picks up the Deadpool head, but I find that one a little hard to believe.

Yes, it was rather plodding, wasn't it? No real excitement gnerated (not even by a member of the Black Eyed Peas having their spine removed)

Gambit would have been better if his presence had not been so gartuitous - there was no good reason for him to restart the fight with Logan.

Thought Shrieber did a good turn as ST and the opening sequence was pretty good, especially the way they showed the growing divide between the two.

Didn't Origin suggest they were half brothers?

Best thing in it was Reynolds at the start.

Anyway - Star Trek next.

That's during the credits.

I'm talking about the bit right at the end, after everything's rolled.

Apart from Batman, Spiderman and Superman I think its very hard to translate mutants, ie the x-men universe to the big screen, the sheer amount of back story makes it tricky for your casual viewer to penertrate the plot. thus most of the time we get epic comic stories simplified so much the fans groan and the critics pick holes.

The perfect balance is always going to be hard to achieve.

Personally I'm not fussed if it's 100% accurate to the source or not, especially with something as long running and convoluted as the X-Men. Simplification doesn't bother me in the slightest. So long as it actually works as a movie and stands up on its own merits.

And - and this is the key thing - isn't boring.

Wolverine was boring. But then I think 2001 is too, so whatevs.

[EDIT] Oh, and isn't stupid. Like Stryker knowing before he's even shot Wolverine that "the only thing that can kill him" won't actually kill him, just give him amnesia. Er... surely that depends on whereabouts in the brain he gets shot doesn't it?

This part did annoy me quite a bit, but still I had more fun watching the boys wrestle and fight in the theater pretending to be x-men than Ive had in a long time. So the movie was a success to me.

Thought it was okay popcorn fodder but doesn't really hold up to much scrutiny.
