If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

So I went to the G20 protests and sat down in front of a line of police backed up by a line of horses to show them what peaceful protest is really about. I saw other peaceful protesters being clubbed and pushed to the ground, and thought I had a lucky escape. Now the full story of what happened to Ian is coming to light and - surprise surprise - the police's story of "He was like that when we found him!" turns out to be a pack of lies.

I'm utterly disgusted with this incident. Once again the police have been shown to be nothing more than cowardly, murdering thugs who will lie to get each other off the hook. I'd been warned by friends (one who works in the Home Office in particular) that there was going to be trouble, but for a man who was just walking home to be clubbed to death is revolting. My ex was "kettled" just because she was out doing shopping (she lives in the area) and this could easily have happened to her.

Just a rant, basically, but I'm fuming over this. Not surprised, after de Menezes, but really, really angry that they seem to think it's okay to spread misinformation like this, and the tabloids lap it up. Most of the news coverage was of baying mobs of anarchists throwing bottles at the brave police medics who were trying to ressucitate him. The video shows a policeman hitting him with a baton, knocking him to the ground and standing there as a protester helps him to his feet. If you take away the uniform, you've got assault, ABH and manslaughter right there. We have footage of the incident from the protesters' side, but apparently the police advised that CCTV be turned off during the protests, probably because photographing or videotaping the police is illegal now. Jesus.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!
