Aye, it looks rather cumbersome for ye lot, I must say.
Looks pretty normal to me, but then I read that only a few % of British car-owners own any tires outfitted with traction studs for the winter.
Must be rather interesting to go about for a bit of a drive in London right now, if that is true...
Everybody ok then? Got to work right and proper-like? Got to go early? I'd like to know your thoughts on this, and your feelings on the local gov's handling on it, as well as possible theories on causes of course.
Hear it's coming down my end on Wednesday, so I guess I'll find out what this Father Winter bloke is made of then. Not too worried tho, I've broken his wrinkly arse before.

i think the fuss is a bit ridiculous. Its the most snow we have had in twenty odd years - having the equipement in place to cope with it would be a massive waste of taxpayers money.
The only thing i thought they could have done a lot better on is, given it was apparently known a week ago that a humdinger was on the way, give everyone a better heads up so people are prepared rather than having them wake up and then try and slog it into work. Rather we do what we can and when its not good enough to cope (which it never would have been) go 'oh well'
But at the end of the day its exceptional weather for Britain so it leads to a bit of a halt. Seems reasonable to me.
Yet on Radio 4 this morning there were comments about the buses not stopping in the blitz and "WW2 would have turned out quite differently if the Nazi's realised that all they had to do was cover Britain in snow". Wait - what? With their Nazi weather machine? That only Indiana Jones or Captain America can stop? How remarkable that such a thing never came to pass.
If people really want to invoke the spirit of the blitz could i mayhap suggest getting on with life and whining a bit less?

My complaints mainly refer to my area. All the snow has melted on the main roads but you still have schools closed and people not turning up for work cause theres a pile of snow at the end of their driveway.Best First wrote:i think the fuss is a bit ridiculous.
My feeling is... get on with it.
How much money's lost by businesses short of staff and such tho?Best First wrote:having the equipement in place to cope with it would be a massive waste of taxpayers money.
That said, I actually think what has been done locally to deal with the problem has been adequate, it's just some people take the piss.

Interesting reading Boris Johnson's appeal that people not skive - after he stopped all the buses yesterday. Some of us can and do work from home, but the majority of people I spoke to yesterday ditched work at the bus stop and went sledging instead
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Obviously it's not been as bad up here as in the capital, but any morning where my windscreen can be cleared of whatever accumulated overnight simply by waving my hand... I don't really think I've got an excuse to bunk off.
"Oh no, it has snowed, I can't possibly get to work." Lazy [composite word including 'f*ck']. Dry water is your only weakness is it?
But then, as implied, we didn't so much get snowed in as the entire area was turned into something from a Hunter S Thompson fever dream.

Hmm, I wonder if his appeal was primarily due to the snow, or that the first monday in February is apparently the traditional National Sickie Day.Metal Vendetta wrote:Interesting reading Boris Johnson's appeal that people not skive - after he stopped all the buses yesterday. Not that much snow over here, though. Almost all of it was gone by midday yesterday, then it started snowing again and by nightfall, there was an eerie orange glow visible through the front door's frosted windows.
Oh, and Predabot, either talk properly or [composite word including 'f*ck'] off, you unamusing ****.

It's bizarre, but it makes a lot more sense reading it with a Canadian accent.Rebis wrote:Oh, and Predabot, either talk properly or **** off, you unamusing ****.

Dare I say it, LOL.
The Northwest was snowed in by about a foot for two weeks around Christmas. Driving was either ice, which at least your car moved on, or tons of slushy nasty stuff that was like driving in sand dunes and sent your car slipping and sliding all over the place. Since we usually have about the same weather as the British Isles, it was really weird.
Survive the apocalypse, gents.

Down here, if there's ice on the bridges, EVERYTHING shuts down and everyone stays home.
But then when you guys up north have a heat wave, you're the ones running around all crazy like. Here, it's 100 F or more for weeks at a time, and we're cool.

Well, seems like this really wasn't such a big deal then, pissy Londoners in my telly none the less.
I wagered this freak snowfall was caused by the climate change, aye? But obviously not very many seem to think that is the case, so maybe not.
Would be interesting to see if it comes back next year.
Something I've pondered myself from time to time, what if the Gulf-Stream was to change course? That would be rather unpleasant for my neck of the ol' woods, so to speak.
Wednesday is almost over btw, and no sign of any snow-storm. Huh.
Whilst we're chatting a bit Sweden, where is Ob btw?
Wasn't really as fun as I thought tho. :\
Is it a bit like Aussie maybe? That why Wolverine always sounds like he's an Aussie in the toons? Is it??
I must know! ^^
It is usually sent forth to slay our enemies, but has been known to be used for various perverted shamanistic rituals. ^^

Schhh! Mark! Don't reveal my super-secret time-travel plan for domination of the British Isles!Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:Did u learn English in 1600 ?

What DOES a Canadian accent sound like anyway? I've been trying to figure it out, but what little I've seen on the telly just sounds like regular yank-speak.Metal Vendetta wrote: It's bizarre, but it makes a lot more sense reading it with a Canadian accent.

Each winter, we go out én masse in my home-town and carve out a giant creature such as this out of the ice, and animate it.Ozz wrote:So why did He put England under snow and not Sweden?
