The jumbo "BSG season 4.5 thread" [Spoilers!]

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Easily done. Like real people, they're almost all bastards in one way or another.
My question is, I only remember the old BSG vaguely (saw the movies and some episodes) and that I liked it. How many seasons is it, and is it good by today's standards?
It's about as far removed stylistically from the original series as you can get. The new version is 4 seasons (plus a 3hr pilot mini, a couple of webisode series and two tv movies) and is absolutely superb by today's tv standards.

If I want to see stuff about how real people behave, I'll start talking with my collegues... :D There's a reason I prefer Sci-Fi to real life serials.

Thanks but I meant the OLD series... how many seasons +movies +etc was that? Less/More then Trek?

I'm also starting Dr. Who (the original series). I heard so much about how good the new series was, but I don't want to start with that - you gotta start Transformers with G1 too, not with Animated. :)

To each their own. The characters in BSG are about empathising more than sympathising. But if you want escapism then more power to whoever.

Oh right. The original series got cancelled after 24 episodes (one season). It did get revived for Galactica 1980, which was 10 episodes.

There were three theatrical movies, but they were all recut versions of tv episodes stitched together. Though from what I understand the first movie incorporated several alternate scenes to the three-parter that kicked off the tv series.

Apparently there's about a dozen tv movies, too, but all comprising episodes of the original and 1980 series stapled together.

I have mad Wiki Fu skillz.

Some would say the new Who series probably works better if you're less familiar with the original. ;) But nah, it's all good in the hood. Good luck following the original series given the insane DVD release schedule.

Original BSG seemed like the coolest thing when I was a kid, but no, it hasn't stood the test of time very well.

You'd be better off starting with the 2005 series. You don't need to have seen the previous 26 years to follow it.

Plus over 100 of the original episodes got chucked in the bin. :( If you like the new series you can always go back and explore. It doesn't follow big arcs like modern TV, so you can more or less pop in where you like
